Hahah!
Our roses are blooming and the blackberries are turning black. Pecan trees have started growing back, so it's time to plant!!
However, I do miss having spring and fall weather

While we all know these are unprecedented times, I think we need to avoid the coronavirus topics for awhile. There have been several threads (some which I have participated in) that have gone down the rabbit hole. While it is difficult to avoid all the information, and not feel compelled to talk about it, I think that we need to keep it out of the forum. I will be closing and archiving any of the current threads out there.
Everyone is on edge, and things can get charged. There is no point losing friends and members at a time when we all need each other the most.
I think we need to maintain The Briar Patch in the form that it best serves us all... to provide an escape from the outside noise. Let's get back to what we do best, and keep this our virtual man cave for pipes and tobacco.
Thanks
I love how the thread to announce about staying away from the topic of coronavirus has become the thread where people talk about coronavirus. I should probably do something about that, but at the minute, this thread is steering the course well. Let's keep it that way.

It's almost summer here, so everyone stays inside anyway. Actually, it's cold and raining hard right now. Ordered in food to be left on the porch. No problem.

I am pleased with the way the country is handling the issue, from the executive branch to the governors regardless of political affiliation.
I do hope those in Congress that used it as an opportunity to fork the pork to friends and family that had nothing to do with the virus, pay a heavy political price.

I recently read a report from Oxford University about the probilities of the total extinction of mankind. They figure that there is a 35% chance of extinction in the next 30 to 50 years. A pandemic figures in at 5%,but the highest rating is given to out of control nanotechnology. Something to think about. Luckily I won't be around for it. But I think it has a point. We are heading towards the end at a breakneck pace.

My wife made some nice fitting masks following this video instruction.

We have some we picked up on eBay from China last year. They sat in the packaging for a year so they should be as safe as anything else. I am personally getting a kick out of wearing a bandana like a genuine desperado. It's black!👺

Watching the elitist actors, and famous performers show videos from palatial estates while they are responsibly self quarantining themselves to let us know that they are down for the struggle looks really stupid. No class envy here, I think that it is cool that they have had such success and never have to work another day if they choose not to, but they aren't facing challenges that the average person is.
Maybe I am getting too grouchy, but I think it looks stupid. I happen to agree with Conan O' Brien.
For the purposes of full disclosure, I would know nothing about this all if it wasn't for the wife's viewing habits...I love the gal, but we are wired differently.

I agree 100% with you Charlie, Pretend People singing songs, while my Son gets up at 5:30 every morning going to surgery, sometimes not always working 28 hrs straight, first responders, nurses, law enforcement those are the hero’s, hoping this virus moves the focus on who really matters in life.

When this is over I hope those in charge can get their heads out of their asses, knock off the party politics..Investigate this thing and find out what was done right, and what was done wrong..Set up a plan of action in case it happens again..We the American people deserve nothing less..My praise, and thanks goes to those brave folks who are risking them selves to help others.

I think that this thread has become more about people talking, and sharing their situations with each other vs. bickering about which news is real and which isn't. This is the type of thread we need. An opportunity to talk about our own individual situations, listen to our brothers/sisters, provide recommendations to each other, and leave the politics at the door.
If this one starts to spin down the shitter, I'll close it just like the others.
Also, for ANYONE that is out of work... file for unemployment please. The stimulus bill gives additional federal money in addition to your state benefit. (This is not an invitation to discuss politics)

My son vapes..He has a friend who runs a vape shop..He gave my son a couple of N95 masks which my son gave to me and my wife.He says he getting more in an a couple of days..He's going to sell me a box of 10 for 50 bucks. If I get them I'm going to pass them around to my neighbors..Most of my neighbors are old and don't have a lot of money to stock up ahead on stuff. They can only buy as they get money so that means more trips to the store..If I can get them these mask maybe it will make them feel a little bit better about going out.

I really like his actual study with the guitar and a bust of Teddy Roosevelt.
