While we all know these are unprecedented times, I think we need to avoid the coronavirus topics for awhile. There have been several threads (some which I have participated in) that have gone down the rabbit hole. While it is difficult to avoid all the information, and not feel compelled to talk about it, I think that we need to keep it out of the forum. I will be closing and archiving any of the current threads out there.
Everyone is on edge, and things can get charged. There is no point losing friends and members at a time when we all need each other the most.
I think we need to maintain The Briar Patch in the form that it best serves us all... to provide an escape from the outside noise. Let's get back to what we do best, and keep this our virtual man cave for pipes and tobacco.
Thanks

Thank you, Justin!! We have already lost some valued members...I feel a personal loss for each of them. Good friends and comrades are hard to find, so I 100% agree with the action taken by our leader and chief.

I lost 2 friends this morning. I am not in a good place. I know what you are feeling, Ron...I miss those who have been there through thick and thin...people who would give you the shirt off their back, have gone blank and disappeared...like you, I'm not in a good place, either. Conversation alone, should not cause abandonment.

There wasn't enough friction to explain it. The moon? Who knows.

Little slights in one person's opinion can be the final staw in anothers.

I saw the thread title earlier today and avoided it precisely for the reasons Justin outlined.
I am burned out on the subject.

Just an interesting aside here. I had an appointment scheduled with a orthopedic specialist a couple of weeks out. His office called and rescheduled me earlier but on a Hangouts call. He's gone to telemedicine. We just need to review some x rays, but I thought that was really cool.

Just have one thread and let it run. That's what every other forum is doing. You will end up like the little boy trying to plug the dam with your finger. Corral it all in one place and make it buyer beware.

I got a second bottle of industrial 95% ethanol from Amazon. It's all that's left. All of the liquor stores are sold out of Everclear. I have been able to make 4 bottles of hand cleaner.

I don't like chocolate chips in my cannoli, but the wife does. So, guess what?

Aah, so that’s what cannoli is. All these years I’ve been wondering why the hell would you put that in pasta.
One of the many wee lies I’ve been told by my ex-teacher Mr.Rogers, the master of humorous deception, as a student. He also made me think for years that gonorrhea was a speech disorder.

Oh...the temptation !
Well I think I'm very lucky compared with many. I'm sat here in my sunny conservatory overlooking the peaceful green hills of mid Wales. I can walk locally without other people around or just sit here doing very little except smoke my pipe....too often !! I'm trying to pace myself but it's so easy just to keep lighting up ! I've just had to order another 400 grams of my go to favourite from Germany. Thomas Radford Sundays Fantasy. I can get it here in the UK but only small pouches whereas from the continent it comes in lovely sealed tins of 100 grams. Postage is added but still a little cheaper than here. I wonder how long it will take me to get through it !

Hey lenticula! I grew up on the Black Mountain just north of Ammanford in a little farmhouse called Foel Uchaf! I miss it. The land around Dallas Texas where I live now is hot, dry, dead and brown. No heather at all. People are nice, but you find out trees can actually be dusty; it's weird.

Thanks for your reply. I came over to Dallas in 1980 to get my US pilot's licence out of Meachem Field. Fell in love with TX and ended up living in the Rio Grand valley. Was in Port Isabel on and off for 30 years as long as my status allowed me to. Miss Texas so much. I always told people that I wasn't born in Texas but got there as soon as I could !

Wow. Lived for the first four years on Galveston Island, then mostly around the metroplex after that. Love the people here. My pilot's license unfortunately, is simulated. We have a lot in common, ffrind

I just got off the phone with our Genomics Lab that is doing the SARS-2 testing for us. Looks like I have personally handled several positive specimens … glad I'm always careful!
… changes gloves, applies tons of sanitizer and does the hokey-pokey twice ...
