This is an experiment that came out pretty good but, I'm thinking of changing some things with the next one I do......if I decide to do another. Still debating whether I should sell it or ......................

The shape is kind of like a tulip. It's unique for sure.

Thank you Gentlemen, I really like the way it turned out as an experiment. Might just keep it, still debating.

A different direction for you, Ron. I like the execution and the key buttons are a neat addition.

Thank you Gentlemen! And yes, it is more art then function and is one reason I'll change some things if I do another.

Most unusual. To be honest, I don't know what my reaction is. Still looking at it.

The first Saxophone pipe I remember was an Alpha Citation. Beautiful pipe as is yours, though I would do away with the three keys on the side.

Personally I like the valves on the side although I think there's a better way to do it. Some people like it just as it is and some don't, ya can't please everyone and only some, some of the time and some none of the time.
As far as the Alpha, it was the only briar Sax I could find that even came close to looking like a Sax and I wanted to try and create one that at least looks more like one. Maybe on my 2nd attempt I'll come closer.

www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/estate/italy/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=77773I have 3, all obtained thru late Barry Levin's Polaroid flyers from the 80s. "Business", NewDear & a "NewLine". The latter one...same in general but "normal" bowl. Personally I thought the "valves" in Ron's was a nice different touch. In general, great job planning "outside the box"carving regards, Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY

I don't like the keys either but understand those that do. Great take on the Sax!! I would stain the rim as dark as dark can get. I despise rim char and that would solve that issue.

While I'm not wild about the keys...the overall beauty of the pipe in unquestioned in my humble and slightly biased opinion.

I think the contrast between the rim and the sides is what makes the pipe and taking some cant out of the bowl rim would solve a lot of build up problems on the rim, which I plan to do if I make another and the valves, will probably stay just look a little different.

Ya know, I heard a lot of "I don't like this or I don't like that!" And as I explained before ya can't please all the people all the time. And if I had to try I would just give up doing it, because ya just have to make things that please you once in awhile to make it worthwhile doing. If I had made it as a commission it would be a different story getting a complaint from the purchaser. If I'm correct, this aint PMF and I didn't ask for critiques. I made it for me, and yes there was a question whether I put it up for sale.
But, that I haven't made my mind up about just yet. Just because someone doesn't like something it doesn't mean everyone will and vise versa. For instance, just about all the blends people taunt about I can't stand. That's just one, there are many others.

Great looking pipe..I'm not really sold on the keys either though. It reminds me of a pipe that I used to see on old man smoke many years ago..Except the top of his was level..More like a Calabash, but made of Briar.

But, that I haven't made my mind up about just yet. Just because someone doesn't like something it doesn't mean everyone will and vise versa. For instance, just about all the blends people taunt about I can't stand. That's just one, there are many others. I enjoy many things about your pipes and designs Ron. In fact, one day I hope to commission pipes from you and Cramps. The only thing about this pipe, a pipe that I really like, that I would change is the artificial keys. I typically prefer my bowls/shanks to be made from one material, typically briar, with the exception of shank extensions from time to time (if done in in good taste ). When I look at the market I also do not see pipes with these kinds of additions selling very well, at least not in the artisan pipe world. This makes me believe that the Keys lower the market value of your excellent work. I would not want this to happen. Of course, if you keep it then who cares, enjoy your pipe young man. Like you, I do not enjoy a number of blends (Who does? ) . If someone posts a positive thread or comment about a blend I dislike, I have the choice to comment or not. If I comment (After all that is what one does in a forum), I try to be considerate sometimes expressing my reasons: the blend's positive and negative points, my smoking preferences (English , Virginal, non-aromatic, aromatic blends etc. ) and/or alternative choices etc, giving context to my comments. Being totally onboard with being considerate and kind to one another, I also think that limiting posts to only positive comments can make a thread sterile and artificial. Personally, I learn so much from folks who point out other ideas and thoughts that I would not want to chastise a well considered constructive opinion, be it positive or negative.
I sure hope you continue to post all of your creations here at the forum. I love your work. Seriously, this pipe is actually one of my favorites among the pipes you have posted at the Briar Patch. As a former musician who enjoys artisan pipes with an abstract sensibility, it is right up my alley. If this pipe was offered and I could afford it (my finances are still horribly tight) I would take it with one humble request, can you please lose the keys?
