Just joined your forum. Looks like a fun bunch. I'm 65, retired. I'm kind of a "do-it-yourselfer". I load my own ammo, make my own sausage/brats, make my own wine. Collect things too - like old corkscrews, knives, ..... My wife is already anticipated a pipe collection now. I'm also thinking it would be fun to buy used pipes and restore/refurbish them. We'll see. I smoked a pipe for a several years back in 1998-99, but gave it up. Recently I have been thinking about starting up again. A couple of weeks ago I was sampling a homemade toasted caramel port as I was filtering it - and the flavor reminded me of the aroma of a tobacco shop. I haven't been able to get it out of my mind since. So for a couple weeks, I've been searching and window shopping online. Was having trouble finding pipes like I used to own but finally ordered a couple. I'm really regretting getting rid of my 5 or 6 pipes from 20 years ago. Today I went to a pipe shop and bought a used/refurbished pipe and some tobacco and accessories - so in a few minutes I'm going to have my first bowl in 20 years. Looking forward to this forum. I've picked out a few tobaccos and brands based on what I've already read here.

Welcome to the Patch from SW Kansas. My pipe journey is similar to yours. Coming up on two years ago, I came back to my pipes after a 30 year absence filled with cigar smoking. I did keep my original four pipes however. The internet has opened up a whole world of pipes and tobacco. I believe you will find it interesting and wonderful. Fair warning, we are a bunch of enablers when it comes to pipe and tobacco acquisition. Have fun!

Welcome from Dallas TX. Bunch of enablers indeed. What tobacco blends did you get? PS By your name, you may enjoy the following link. I got a searchable pdf of Hobbit and LoTR, and went through every instance of the word 'pipe', so have the definitive list of all pipe shapes specifically described by Tokien: All pipes described by Tolkien

Welcome, Gandalf! So how was the first bowl in 20 years? Pretty good. I tried the New Minster No. 23 Blueberry/Brandy that I saw was on a tobacco of the month forum. That stuff has a great aroma even before you light up! Could just open the bag and let it fill the room like incense.

I'm a big reader. Read Tolkien years ago, then read the Hobbit again - to my children when they were growing up. Maybe I should read it all again. Checked out your list of pipes described by Tolkien. Good reading.

Yeah, figured as big as Texas is, they were probably no where near each other. I am always surprised that people say, "you're from Houston? Do you know so and so?" I was born in Houston and I don't know anybody there. But we are used to driving 5 hours to see a friend, so even though she's not close in other states math, she's still in Texas. So any good reason and road trip. ππ€

You guys are right about some Chicagoans thinking "Southern Illinois" starts well North of Joliet! How central?? Champaign? I used to live in Livingston Co. (You can put your location in your Profile.)
