Its hot here now. Damn hot. Heat index in Charlotte is hitting over 100 regularly now. I find myself not wanting a smoke very often, if at all, due to the heat. At home I only smoke in the garage and it is just too warm for me to find it enjoyable. The blasted virus has the local lounges and shops I'd normally go to in warm weather cut to half capacity and they are regularly full. I smoke all types of blends, but I lean towards oriental forward English and Balkan blends. Maybe I should try to smoke some lighter fare and see how it is? What do you folks tend to smoke when the temperature rises? I can hardly wait for late September

I don't have seasonal preferences I just smoke what I'm in the mood for. Filling a Dunhill with Presbyterian right now to go do some lawn work.

Here in AZ, it's plenty toasty in the Summer so I feel your pain. (forecast is for 106°F today) Typically, I try to get in a pipe with my morning coffee before it's too hot and smoke more cigars in the evenings. I used to smoke more Virginia blends once it got hot but find myself veering away from them for the most part. Here's to my favorite season getting here quickly ... FALL!!

When it is too hot outside, I either head for the A/C shed or not smoke at all.

Usually a pork butt or maybe a brisket. If it is too hot out, I generally don't smoke much. Not so much because of the smoke, I just don't want to be out in the heat anymore than I have to. Temperate weather does make smoking a lot more enjoyable, not English blends in the summer though, they just don't work for me.

I find a cool shady place and smoke the same stuff as I would if it were cold and rainy.
People ask the same question about beer - I drink porter and stout regardless of the weather, I just drink it cold instead of room temperature. Nothing like an ice-cold Anchor Porter after mowing the yard.

I'm sure you are right about that. I spend a month or so in SW Colorado each Summer and always bring my pipe, but can't remember ever actually lighting it. I would have to be an early-rising after breakfast smoker.

I dont change what or how I smoke based on temperature. Except in super cold I might tend to go with a pipe over a cigar when working or riding outside, for a Montana hand warmer.
Same with coffee. I dont cut down just 'cuz it gets hot.

I don't really have a preference with heat, but then again, we don't get much heat here. On a good day we're talking about 18-20°c so that's pathetic to most people (but preferable to many too). However, getting a good day is like hen's teeth. For example, today is the middle of July and it maxed out at 15°c. That's about right for the summer in Ireland.
So if I ever get a really hot day I don't know what I'd smoke. Probably an aromatic. I do like a latakia blend on cooler days.

I'll never forget the coldest day of my life - and I was indoors, sitting by a coal fire wrapped in blankets, freezing my butt off. That was November in Newry, either 1988 or 1989. There was one night camping in the Medicine Bow Mountains in Wyoming that was almost as bad, but bone-chilling cold in Ireland (or England) is something you don't run into much in the U.S.

Some folks might not realize that England (and I guess Ireland), is on the same latitude as the Canadian/Alaskan border, so it's not just Minnesota cold, or even Canada cold, it's Alaska cold, and is why when we emigrated to Texas from Colchester I thought I was going to die. And 15-20C is 64-68F, while 15C is 59F. Yum. Just how I like it, though colder is good, too. For the OP, I only smoke indoors where my A/C can get it 20°F cooler than outside, so I smoke whatever I want, which is mostly VaPer flakes

I smoke whatever I'm in the mood for, which is normally Va/VaPers anyway. But in this thick south Georgia heat, my number of pipes goes way down to MAYBE 3 a week instead of 5+ per day.

nothing different no matter what temps. Either a usual lata-bomb in yard pipes or a cigar. Too damn old to be concerned with such "details"

There was a day last year that it was, like, 110% humidity and 100F. I couldn't decide. Nothing seemed palatable. I decided on some Stonehenge flake, and it was perfect.

What do you folks tend to smoke when the temperature rises? I can hardly wait for late September The first two sentences immediately took my back to "Good Morning Vietnam" with Robin Williams. "What's the weather like out there? "It's hot. Damn hot! Real hot! Hottest things is my shorts. I could cook things in it. A little crotch pot cooking." Well, can you tell me what it feels like. "Fool, it's hot! I told you again! Were you born on the sun? It's damn hot! I saw - It's so damn hot, I saw little guys, their orange robes burst into flames. It's that hot! Do you know what I'm talking about." What do you think it's going to be like tonight? "It's gonna be hot and wet! That's nice if you're with a lady, but it ain't no good if you're in the jungle.""

I'm a bit further south (in SC), so we're hot and humid. I'm in the mood for a pipe, but don't smoke when it's hot out, so I've not smoked in weeks. Maybe Saturday with a fan on in the screen room...we'll see. While pipes are important to me, I am not one who "needs" to smoke every day (or even every week), so I'm fine. But I miss it lately.

I'm feeling the same. I WANT a pipe, but I'm not going to sit outside miserably to have one. It might be different if I didnt work outside as well, but sweating while sitting in the shade isnt my idea of enjoyment. Hot, humid, no clouds, no breeze, blistering sun. I'm ready for December when its pipes-a-plenty

I haven't changed my tobacco rotation at all, but I'm only smoking once a day. That's while taking an early morning walk before the heat index gets back into the 100s.

I smoke the same stuff regardless. We are at 3100'ASL, so it tends to cool a bit at night. For example, it is forecast for 94F at 5:00 PM and 7:00 AM tomorrow it will be 71F. The big advantage here is low humidity. Right now at 38%. With a 17 MPH breeze; which is normal. During the winter, when it gets too cold to smoke on the patio, I move the mobile smoking lounge (my truck). I'm threatening to clean out my yard shed and convert some of it to a smoking lounge with some sort of heater. Maybe some A/C as well. Of course, if I get it too comfortable, there might be a suggestion I just stay back there.

Am I to assume it's for storage only?

The basement remodel includes my tobacco cellar, pipe storage, and some office space for me. That along with our pool table, a sofa, and flatscreen. Perfect place to watch football, if we ever get to do that again!

Thanks for the opinions and suggestions guys! I do miss having a pipe. I have some Stonehenge flake so maybe I'll give that a shot. The Candy Cane Cocoa sounds interesting too, I've only seen a couple of things that have mint as a topping. The cooling effect of it might just do the trick

I’m still pondering on how to smoke a Virgin, with or without clothes? Leave that for later, early morning in S Louisiana, lower 70s not too hot, small cigar, late afternoon almost at dusk, Buddy and I smoke, we hear the owls, trucks, cars passing on farm road, neighbors donkey brays, doves start their lonesome trill. Now with all the rain, pesky little mosquitoes, that ain’t good. More cigars than pipes.

The summers here in the Sierras are hot and dry. 90-100 and no chance of rain. Always a chance of fire. If you smoke outside it's gotta be early in the morning or late at night, as temperature generally don't get below 70. I'll smoke a little less in summer just cause I refuse to get up early enough to have a smoke, and if do, my wife has me watering the plants instead. So for me, in the Summer, I smoke Virginias. Or, light aromatics. Sakura, Lakelands, so something like that. Besides, those are the only tobaccos she'll let me smoke inside. God forbid I should light up a Latakia blend. I'll hear about it for days.
