Tropical storm Sally is forecast to be Hurricane Sally with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph when it makes landfall in Louisiana on Tuesday. The track this morning has it going in west of the Mississippi River near Grand Isle. We live close to the Mississippi state line, so we will be on the east side of the storm.
I still have most of the supplies laid in from the last hurricane and this one is expected to be a Cat 1 hurricane.

All's well here in Tallahassee, now we are dealing with tornadoes and keeping the hatches battened down.

Full tank of gas, coffee for two weeks, generator installed and tested, extra cash, powdered milk to give away just in case. About as ready as I can get.

Not sure what the strength is supposed to be...right now it is 145mph winds which is a cat.4. Hopefully it will lessen by the time it hits landfall around noon on Friday.

Not sure what the strength is supposed to be...right now it is 145mph winds which is a cat.4. Hopefully it will lessen by the time it hits landfall around noon on Friday. The forecast really depends on who you listen to and who you trust. For example, one report by a local media outlet in New Orleans has Delta making landfall as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane Friday afternoon. The National Hurricane Center has a forecast of the storm making landfall as a Category 2 or possible a Category 1. The following is from the NHC Forecast Advisory released at 4 am CDT this morning. It's what they are forecasting for Friday, Oct. 9 at 1 PM CDT. FORECAST VALID 09/1800Z 28.8N 93.4W MAX WIND 90 KT...GUSTS 110 KT. 64 KT... 30NE 30SE 25SW 30NW. 50 KT... 60NE 60SE 40SW 50NW. 34 KT...130NE 140SE 100SW 90NW. With max sustained winds of 90 knots, that makes Delta a mid-range Category 2. Then there is the question of how much the storm is going to weaken when it hits the slightly cooler waters near the coastline and the effect any westerly wind shear is going to have.

Guess I better call the nephews in Mandeville and Gretna. This gets old. Yes it does. As of this morning the New Orleans "Metro" area including Mandeville and Gretna are outside of the forecast "cone" and isn't expecting much in the way of wind and rain.

Glad to hear that, but it's going to hit somewhere that doesn't need it. I hear that Lake Charles is still a big mess.

That really sucks. Lake Charles is still trashed from the last one. My nephew has his shop in Sulphur 85% rebuilt.

“ The forecast really depends on who you listen to and who you trust.”
I would go with the professionals and ignore the mainstream media. To listen to them, everything is a crisis.
Case in point, whenever a snowstorm hits NYC, ground zero for the media we are suppose to collectively crap our pants.

NOAA is pretty good but with hurricanes you never know. Kind of like predicting a string top the worst is when they stall and become giant rain makers.

Case in point, whenever a snowstorm hits NYC, ground zero for the media we are suppose to collectively crap our pants. I pay attention to the National Hurricane Center website. People talk about how good The Weather Channel and local weather forecasters are but they don't realize that they just re-interpret the data from NOAA and the National Hurricane Center. www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/091227.shtml?cone#contentsIf you look at the graphic, Lake Charles is right on the western edge of the storm track. Sulphur is about 8 miles further to the west. The area that should be concerned is Jennings, La. which is approximately 30 miles east of Lake Charles.
