Marbles and Izzy both had a large bowl of kibble topped with hot turkey trimmings, a little stuffing and the broth that will eventually become gravy.
They both finished their bowls and lay down to sleep. Content.

Our new pup is growing. About 3 or 4 times the size she was when we brought her home. 14 weeks old now. She sleeps in the oddest positions.

That’s a cutie.
PS... That ropey thing with the fringe. Can be dangerous. My Boston chewed off enough of the strings to have an intestinal blockage and a trip to the vet emergency clinic. $500 later she was all better but sore for a couple of weeks from the surgery.

2days ago while smoking on porch, Buddy’s jumped up and made a beeline to the front, 2 very big dogs were about to come in the yard, he growled and jumped at fence line, hackles up, thought I was gonna have to stop a dog fight, but the 2 interlopers fan away, Glad for that!

Eli (6.75 months on Thursday next) is turning out to be a very different kind of Shorthair from Jack. Jack casts with his nose to the ground, loping along at a good clip. This is, by the way, one of the reasons he has been snake-bit three times in the last three years. His head is almost never on a line with his spine, always lower. Eli casts with his head either level with or above the line of his spine. Sometimes in the dog-yard he will get a whiff of something and raise his head so that his nose is pointing straight up and then move his head from side to side. Jack never does this. The other day there was evidently something very rich in the air as he was walking around with his nose pointed straight up. Once he stood on his hind legs, nose reaching as high as he could push it, and danced around like that for a few seconds. I never did figure out what it was.

Cute pup! Love those sweet loving eyes. My "baby" loves to sleep next to my pillow at night...I listen to her snoring and wake her slightly when she is having a "bad dream" and whimpering.

When Jack was 6mos old, about Eli's age now, he got his first taste of venison. I put some, with broth, in a small bowl and gave it to him. Next thing I knew he was at my chair in the dinette doing a perfect "Please, sir, can I have some more!"

This is one reason I have my yards fenced high enough, it takes some effort for outside dogs to find their way in. Also helps keep the riff raff out along with the LSD Missionaries, JWs, Hari Krishna's, Rubber Steak Salesmen and assorted others I need not hear from.

Been on my new place 3+ years now and not a single sales-type has visited. I think the DEAD END sign at the head of road helps. The NO TRESPASSING sign at the end of my driveway also does no harm.

I used to be plagued with visitors. All of the above and more. I am the first sign of life for people on Colorado Highway 159 after 20 miles of sagebrush. They used to stop here to report livestock on the highway, elk on the highway, bison highway, UFOs in the sky, out of gas, out of spare tires, out of money, out of luck as they collided with an elk, a beef, a wild horse, each other. I would have them sneak up behind me while I was working. I would have them at the door as late as 0200. That was disturbing. So, gate closed and chained. A sign reads "Keep Out. No Trespassing". That slowed them down. Some folks still come to the gate and honk and yell. I ignore them.

Marbles was way out in the yard. About 120 feet away from me when I called to him. He ran, RAN, all the way to me. Then hopped up and down and barked happily. He managed to veer and glance off a tree but otherwise no obstacles. For a blind dog to run like that is a good sign. This is the first time he has acted like a normal happy dog. We will have to work on voice direction.

Our little puppy went to her last puppy check out today. Now she's had all her shots, and got her tags. She weighted 7lbs today. Three weeks ago she only weighted 4lbs 11oz. She's growing like a weed. She's not supposed to weight too much when she's grown. Somewhere between 10 and 15lbs. Probably closer to 15.

pepesdad1 No, I told the wife today we weren't going to let her get fat - like the neighbors dog. Told her, now that we had her tags, we were going to get access to the local park districts dog park, so we could let her run in a large open fenced area. Plan to exercise her a lot.

The grand dogs came to visit yesterday, along with the kids and grandson #1. I love dogs, I truly do, but they are plenty enough for my canine fix right now. Maybe later.

We had Lacy on a diet before we moved. She got up to 14 pounds. She is back down to 8 pounds now and very happy. As long as she gets her morning run in the yard. She has to chase off any squirrels and investigate every burrow and hollow tree.

It’s cruel— even if well-meaning— to let a dog get fat. It’s also shortening their already too-short lives. Of course, they will resist any attempt to get them in trim. But it should be done. There are some very good weight managment foods out there. They just need to be researched.

Trouble overnight.
Marbles was given half of a roast lamb bone last night after feeding. He certainly enjoyed it. However, during the night he barded up his dinner, a pool of bile and shat the floor. Fortunately, my floors are tile so no harm done and easy cleaning. Latter one he re-consumed the kibble barf.
I guess it was too much for him in volume and richness. I am sure he is eating better than previously at any time as I go to much rouble preparing meals. I can see a change in his coat. It is now softer and glossy. His dandruff has ceased. That indicates more oils coming to the surface from a diet richer in fats and oils.
His volume may have to be reduced. He has not shown much weight gain. I do not want to overwhelm his digestion.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
