I'm just a noob, but I'm not a huge fan of Zoom. It shares the same problem real-life conversation has: people interrupting each other. It's even worse on Zoom, since it's simplex.
In a chat room, everybody gets to finish their sentence and be heard/read.

Zoom allows you to participate without sharing your own video, if you want. I get that. If I could rig up my pipe to a cardboard cut out of Tom Cruise... I just think it would be a cool option is all. My plan would be to fill the screen with so much blue reek that you would have a hard time telling that I wasn't Tom Cruise.  |

That's strange. Try going direct from a separate browser window and not through the link in the forum.
