Was in town today helping the Ex move furniture in an out of her house. Mattresses! I hate mattresses. Anyway drank three sodas which is as much as I have in some months. Then out came the Glenlivet 12 year old for a couple of rounds. She has good taste in whisky and men.
Now enjoying Paddy's Irish neat.

Then out came the Glenlivet 12 year old for a couple of rounds. She has good taste in whisky and men. Now enjoying Paddy's Irish neat. A Paddy story... Seán had been in his local most of the evening and as last call loomed near he decided to settle up for his three pints and head home. As he pushed the bills across to the barkeep he said “And a naggin of Paddy if you please, Mike, for the road doncha know...” [naggin = a small, 200-250ml bottle in “hip pocket” shape] He slipped his naggin into his back pocket and stumbled out heading homewards. But as he neared home he misjudged the kerb and fell, hard, on his back. He heard the crunch and then felt wetness all down his leg. “Please, God,” said Seán. “Let it be blood!”

"Paddy's" is not owned by Sazerac. They bought the brand from Pernod-Ricard, who called it "Paddy", without the possessive "s". In addition to changing the bottle and the label from the charming colored map of Ireland to something akin to standard Bourbon bottle, the production process is different. I guess is is to maintain a price point significantly below the competition. The whiskey is made and at the old Cork Distillery and aged in Ireland for a minimum of three years. It is then transported to the USA in bulk and bottled in the USA. Perhaps this has tax implications? Anyway, with the change, the quality is much the same. Still a mix of malt pot still and patent still grain alcohol. I am hoping all barley mash and tying to confirm that.
I have no complaints for the price.

Met some friends at a local micro brewery. Had 2 flights of beer - 8 samples total. Only 2 that I would drink again, and then only if I had to.
Wonder if they have Bud Light on tap?

Some local micros are better than others. We have a winner in Red River (Texas money) and a decent one in Taos. The RR Brewery Scottish Ale is so good, I thought they had a barrel of McEwans in the basement and the brewing gear was just for atmosphere. Turns out, they really do make the stuff themselves. Impressive. The Taos Brewery is good enough for a mere mortal such as I.

I've sampled beers #1 thru #5 on their menu - out of ~24. Liked 2 of them. I need to go back there and try the rest.

We have zero micro breweries in the county, maybe in the 6 counties. And that's fine with me. We also have zero hipsters.

Had white wine with dinner (chicken) at an "upscale" restaurant tonight. (I think they are slipping a bit.) My first glass was a Pacific Rim Dry Riesling - which I keep in my home cellar. So I knew right off the the color was too dark. Tasted it, and I was right. It obviously came from a bottle opened too many days ago. It had "oxidized".
Returned it and ordered a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Much better.
I should learn that's better just to buy a bottle. I costs as much a 3 or 4 glasses, but you know it hasn't been opened for several days.
