Don't mean to bogart the thread, but just to throw another data point into the pot for Sparks and anybody else who might have suggestions, another whiskey I liked previously was Bernheim Wheat Whiskey. Couldn't remember the name of it, earlier. A nice, light change of pace, as I recall.

urbino On the Irish Whiskey front, any of "The Spots". My favorite was Red Spot. It was my substitute for Johnnie Walker while I was in Ireland. Obviously quite different from a peaty blended Scotch, it was a phenomenal Irish whiskey and a very suitable stand-in. Yellow Spot is a bit above the price range you mentioned, but worth a splurge. Green Spot was very tasty as well. Noticeable differences in all, but all quite nice. On the bourbon front, I can't speak highly enough of Jefferson's Ocean. It's always been at the top of my list of bourbons. My Brother who is just dipping his toes into the bourbon pond has so far found it to be his favorite as well.

Tonight, while contemplating supper possibilities, a lovely bowl of Z92 in a Stanwell Blowfish and a Clear Creek toddy. The creek than runs through my place is called Clear Creek, and my well sits on the fabled Ogallala Aquifer— which some say has the finest water anywhere. (Folks who have moved away from the area come back with jugs to take some home.) It has become tradition that my guests receive, on request, a Clear Creek toddy. Simple drink, really an ersatz Old Fashioned: half and half water and Canadian, with a dash of bitters and a bit of sweetener. Pleasant and civilized. And goes so well with a leisurely bowl.
I’ve been enjoying— and learning from the posts here. My favorite Irish is Writer’s Tears. For scotch I prefer Glenmorangie, a highland single malt. But so much good stuff to choose from!

A mug of Mehemet Effendi Turkish Coffee made in a cezve with Demerara sugar. First coffee I have had in many months. What is a cezve? It is a small pot used for making Turkish Coffee... or Greek Coffee, or Armenian Coffee.

A few glasses of a Primitivo from Puglia. The ancestor of California Zinfandel brought to southern Italy by the Greeks a long time ago. A lovely red table wine suitable for roast lamb when Bourgogne is not available.

Vegetables.
The wife bought a juice machine. It reduces perfectly good vegetables into strange drinks in seconds. Actually the couple "tests" she did were not bad. Should help the diet. Instead of skipping lunch, I'll try a glass of vegetable juice.

Hope the technology has improved making cleanup easier.

I just tried to make a cup in a pan. Worked pretty well, too. Not sure I really need a special device. Connoisseurs might, but I don’t qualify.

It is worth doing the right way. My cezve is stainless steel. Most Middle Eastern Markets carry them. It is good to cultivate a relationship with a Middle Eastern market. They have much better olives, olive oil, dates and other stuff compared to what is available at HEB. I always enjoyed talking with the proprietors and gaining some insights.

Yeah, a middle-eastern market should be easy to find here on the High Plains of western Nebraska.

Yeah, a middle-eastern market should be easy to find here on the High Plains of western Nebraska. I was thinking more of your towns and cities. You can order on line but that is not quite the same. BTW, rural NM and southern CO are packed with Palestinians. For example, the next time you head towards your big city you might visit the Jerusalem Grocery, the Mediterranean Grocery, the Green Land Grocery, or the Global Foods Market, El Basha Market, visit Ahmad's Persian Cafe, or dine at the Amsterdam Kabob House. All on your side of Omaha. If you go the other way into Kansas, you could visit the Pak Halal International MArket, the Shahrazad Market, The Al Habashi Halal Market, The Holy Land Cafe, or the second Al Habashi Market and cafe. You see, they are all around you.

Something very hot! Just finished shovelling snow outside my house and a few of my elderly neighbours around me. Watching the snowfall I expect to be out again in another hour.
