Four Roses was my Brother in laws favorite whiskey. Back when you couldn't get it outside of Japan, my sister had an antique store and gallery in Bellville on the Square named after the whiskey. They also had a lot of Four Roses bottles that got rare. It wasn'ta top shelf brand around here before the Japanese bought it. About like Old Crow

Last time in town I bought a bottle of Gentleman Jack to have on hand for my deluded visitors who might want it. Tried about 1-oz y’day eve. Not really bad but reinforced my preference for uisce beatha.

I just can't stand the marketing to the Harley Davidson crowd. |

Peruvian bean coffee.
Had some Elijah Craig Small Batch last night. That's some tasty stuff. Apparently "smooth" is something you're not supposed to say about whiskey anymore, but dammit, it's smooth. A bit higher proof than the Angel's Envy I had the night before, but you wouldn't know it. I could happily drink either one on the regular. And will.

I just keep running across reviews that make a point of avoiding using that word, or they do use it but say something like, "I hate to use that dreaded term, but it's smooth." Maybe they think it's too vague? I dunno. It just seems to be out of fashion for some reason. |
