A bit overcast and cool. Traveling from Boise to Moab today, if all goes well, while drinking coffee and smoking cigars. Here’s Ol’ Boone getting breakfast. Thank you for the picture and update. Please let us know when you make it to Moab safely.

Please let us know when you make it to Moab safely. I went back to bed this morning and slept for another 90 minutes. Seeing this photo earlier today must have influenced me to dream of the horse I raised from a colt when I was a boy. "Fletcher", a Quarterhorse Draft cross. For some reason, I was keeping in the basement of an apartment building where I was staying. That was not not to his liking.

Here’s a mystery for you. A raccoon hanging out of a den tree with the top of his jaw missing.

A little closer. I have a theory. I’ll wait to see what others think...

Wow, that’s a trip!
Did you find a deceased coon hanging from the hole?

Yep. Very dead. Never saw anything like it before. Still don’t know how to explain it.

Parked in Price, Utah tonight. I called the ranch in Moab this morning to let her know we were on the way, and she told me she had already filled the position. Shweetie and I just laughed at the craziness of it all. We are driving our home, and have no schedule, so I just started making more calls. A working cattle ranch in the San Louis valley in Colorado was looking for a permanent ranch hand. We talked, and he said come on down. So we’re heading to Southern Colorado now. I’m so happy being back to living the life I know, I’m like a little kid again. This is great.

Outrageous. But you are no doubt better off out of it. Better luck tomorrow!

Irresponsible idiots abound. How anyone can do that to another is hard to figure.
Anyway, The San Luis Valley of southern CO is right where I live.
You will like it as it is a bit remote and out of step with the times. Not a comment about you, my friend.
At that end of the Valley, the elevation is around 7,500 feet. Just be aware it might take some time to acclimate. I am sure you both will do fine.

I’m pissed for you Dewayne, but it looks like you may have fallen in the honey, and avoided a son of a bitch to work for. Hope things really go your way.

I love that part of the country... Moab would be hotter than Hades in the summertime, and the last time I went in there, the traffic was ridiculous with all of the off-roaders, RVers, tourists, etc. The weather in San Luis during the summertime should be more hospitable.

Cold, grey and wet today as temperature expected to top out at 51F. Looks like a good day to stay indoors.

Got the tractor running after Winter dormancy. Need to change oi and lube.
Repaired the big barn doors which suffered wind damage.
Exhausted now. I am not the man I was a few years ago.

Yup, at our age...days seem to be weeks and months, years...gave up on doing stuff that I would normally do...10 years ago. Now bones break much too easily and not looking forward to being in a hospital these days.

Yep. Gotta slow down. But not too much since I gotta keep this place going, at least a little. The weeds and grass keep on a-growing and stuff needs repairing. I pace myself. When the days get really hot I try to get out there real early so I can knock off about lunch time and be done for the day. Then the day adjourns to the deck for a bowl or two.

"You play the cards you are dealt." Marcus Aurelius would have agreed, he lived his life by that sentiment.
Today started at 37°, our highest overnight temp so far, and ended up at 84°. Did some mowing, spraying, and puttering in the shop, then took the pups for a nice long ramble on the creek, the longest yet. They spent most of the time IN the water today. Eli is becoming a real water-baby. Later this afternoon he and I hung out on the deck watching the squirrels eat buds off the black cherry tree out front. Our trees have no leaves yet, so we get a good view of them at work. Eli can't take his eyes off them. Jack stayed inside, on the couch which is softer than the deck. He ain't no fool that ol' boy.
Discovered that somehow I managed to lose the gas cap off the Rhino. Dang. Created a make-shift that kinda fits and will hold until the replacement arrives. $40 for a gas cap. Ouch!

I'm just trying to stay afloat. Work's keeping me much too busy. Business is picking up, and we're having trouble finding talent to hire.

Made it to the ranch yesterday. Doing day work for the next couple of days to see if we’re a fit and so the boss can tell if I actually know what I’m doing. Feeding several hundred first calf heifers and their babies, then doing a pelvic check of about 300 more replacement heifers. A full day right off.

Boone is happy to be out of that trailer for sure.
