Happy New Year everyone.
32⁰F here in central Illinois - and raining. Everything coated with ice.
On the way to pick up groceries I saw several limbs down. No power interruptions yet. May get use out of the generator if this weather keeps up.

Overcast and breezy, but snow is still melting. Momma and I got the COVID check in the direct deposit this morning and immediately paid off 1 credit card in full and put the remainder toward another. Maybe I’m starting to finally grow up, in days gone by I would have just bought another gun...or saddle.

My neighborhood was rocking last night from dark until I fell asleep at 10.
It seems everyone travelled to New Mexico to buy the good fireworks, It was like a nonstop grand finale in my neighborhood with the pretty impressive top shelf fireworks that were lit off.

I’ve had no credit card bills, no mortgage, no loans or car payments since I was 41 (3 years ago). It’s a good way to live.

Credit cards were already paid off.

Daddy always told me to take care of my needs before my wants. I'm 70 and I have money in the bank and few bills. Why should I wait?

Well, now that 2020 has passed, there's no more Covid, everyone is getting along, community college is free to all, and all we have to worry about now is a giant rock from outer space.

Same old-same old. Dog run this afternoon, but with a twist. Slightly warmer but still a lot of snow. Gave ‘em a good run, then on the way back Jack wanted to get in the back. That’s fine. It was a long one. Then, on a lark, with Eli “on foot,” I turned around and we did ti AGAIN! Jack very happy in the back— looking at Eli as if to say “Come on, slowpoke!” But slowpoke he is not and led us most of the way. When we finally got back to the house he was not the least fatigued and didn’t want to go in. Where does he get it! Can I buy it somewhere? For the first time EVER Jack wanted me to help out of the Rhino. Just didn’t want to jump down. I’ll be watching that. A great day, all around!

Pay off the C/C every month like clockwork. No auto payment. No mortgage. No kid’s education loans. Nothing. If I want something I take some money out of the bank and get it. (Lately, seems like it has been... pipes!) No apologies! Laissez les bons temps roulez, y’all!

Only now, that I have a manse to live in and my house rented out, am i breaking even. It'll be another 20 or so years before I'm mortgage free... But hey, I don't do this for the money. And Scott W... I'll let you see the fedora. I might use it in an upcoming video, I'm sure.

Debt is sometimes unavoidable, but a liberating thing to be free from.
I came from a family where we never had anything, and no instruction on money handling and budgets. My parents never owned a home, and my dad always said it was stupid to go into debt over a mortgage, but he drank and smoked every dime he earned. Consequently, I made a lot of poor decisions as a young person where I made some poorly informed decisions on financing. We are way off better now, no debts and should be fine shape in retirement as we prepare for it.
I wish that there was a Dave Ramsey to counsel me years ago, his advice and wisdom is rock solid, my kids all went through the financial freedom seminars and are all on the right track.

As always, words of wisdom Charlie. Thanks. Any wisdom I have was hard learned, and earned me a lot of knots on the head.

My wife, Big Headed German was my saving grace, I made the money, she was the tight one. I was a fixer, bought used cars from Exxon old men, knew they kept up their cars. ESOP ended because politicians could bear to see a working man get ahead, it was Employees Stock Ownership Program. We had to cash out, had enough to pay house off, Free and clear of debt at 45, thanks to my wife. As Popeye says I am what I am is because of my wife. As Charlie said people need financial advice early.
