Warm, sunny day here in Princeton, TX. Made it in last night, got the horses unloaded and pastured safely, spending the day unloading the truck and trailer and moving into the house.

Went to Texarkana for a doctor's appointment this morning. A big bowl of chicken and sausage gumbo in Arkansas then back to Texas to Sam's then home. Sigh.

Beautiful morning here in Texas, got some more unpacking to do. Then I’ll probably take a whack at the yard with the lawnmower.

I can hear him, Father Winter, lacing up his boots. Faint yet, but will get louder very soon. We're in no-man's land now and could have a winter "event" at any time, even though it seems a bit early. We've had killer blizzards that shut down the whole state as early as the first week in October— and that's only in my recent memory. Nothing that extreme, I'm hoping, but I am looking forward to the change. My only regret is that we almost never get much of a fall. Certainly not as much as I would like. We usually just get plunged right into it. I think he's right over there in Wyoming, chuckling.
Soon enough...

Strangely, despite the fires and drought, it was a comparatively cooler summer in Northern Cal than usual. I wonder what that means for winter? In any case, we need rain or snow or whatever.

That's one thing I like here. Fall lasts for all but about 3 weeks of winter.

Zebra? Fascinating, nightking. They also have a camel and lots of other animals. It is kind of cool having animals, helps to have good neighbors looking out for you when that is the case! One dog complicates getting away for the weekend at times, I could not imagine having livestock to care for at this point in my life. Topping out at 93 here today, we will probably have some triple digit days well into the fall, but glad to see the heat on a wane.

It was raining real bad and I went to be kitchen to get a drink. Heard meowing coming from back door. Thought I let my cat outside when I was taking out the trash and now she wanted back in. She’s a indoor cat and I don’t like letting her outside as my neighborhood has a a few strays. Well turns out it my cat but not one but three abandoned kittens. One stumbled into the back patio and the other two were right out the door under a clump of thick weeds and grass. So I looked around and waited for mama cat to show up but no such luck. Brought them inside and dried them of. Got a nice sturdy box stuffed with blankets and tommrow it’s off to my friend of the family that works with the no kill shelter to foster and find homes for them as I can’t take of 4 cats. Sorry for lack of picture will try to get one later.

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. I had a stray kitten come up to me and try to climb my leg. I picked him up and he was very sweet. I think he just wanted to live. I drove over a hundred miles to every cat shelter in the Houston area and they were all overwhelmed. The poor women working in them looked like they just wanted out. I mean, cats literally hanging from the ceiling. I finally found a friend who wanted him. Whew!

Red came out of the field, little ,full of dew, starved, she jumped in my lap , fed her and for years when I smoked she was in my lap, one day she was gone never to come back. I’m a dog person, but all animals need kindness.

He was just too damned cute. 🤔😐🤠

Wife, small doggie and I went to Panama City Beach to visit and eat at a new Rudys BBQ store...hoping that it was as good as the San Antonio restaurant...it was, brought back 4 bottles of their special BBQ sauce for friends. Really enjoyed their BBQ and will be going back.

Spent a part of the morning cleaning pipes, especially those with ebonite stems. Cleaning pipes is kind of a zen process in itself. A repetitive soothing process and you quickly see the results of your effort. Enjoyed it so much I deserve a smoke.

One of my sisters flew in Friday and wife picked her up from the airport. My second sister flew in Saturday and they both left a couple of hours ago. I took a day off / round trip off so I could see them. Glad I did have not seen them in just over a year and don't know when I will get to see them again.

Dropped the kitties off at their fosters house. Glad our family friend was in town and able to take them in as she has way more experience with taking care of young cats then I do. Glad it all worked out.

Yeah, we have experienced quite a few passing in our family over the last few years, young and old. A reminder to not get caught up in the day to day stuff and make time for family, we never know what tomorrow will bring.😕

Pretty nice to have the front and back door open, and never hear the A/C cycle once. Rains came through this morning and the air is really clean.
72° is pretty nice smoking temperature.
