Trimmed my new Ram, Harold, today. He has not been sheared in a while and his rear end is a bit "muddy". So, I held him while Cassandra clipped him into a more sanitary sheep. He was a good boy all through it. Rewarded with carrots and sweet feed. I sat on a chair with my arm around his neck and a lariat. The sheep halter is way too small. He is a big boy. Named for "Harold Godwinson", the last Saxon King of England (1066). The least I can do for old King Harold. Suffolk and Ramboulet.

Beats "Aethelred the Unready," although Harold may well have been unready for you to attack his buttocks with shears.

I'm sure Harold appreciates that.

One thing about Harald— he had a good eye for action.

Fantastic day here today. 72°, sun, no wind to speak of. Took advantage of that to check out a coupla deer guns. The Ruger 77/44 (bolt gun), 44 Magnum, is ready to go. Also the 257 Bob, with which I am yet to take a deer. Very accurate rifle and capable of 1" at 200Y (verified often!). Can do it but not much needed since my stand always produces at 50Y or much less. Need to check out the 308 too but have to load some fodder for that once National Procrastination Month is over. I have never taken anything with mine either 257 Roberts Remington 722 very nice shape old Redfield 3-9 on it.

The driveway alarm had been going off in the middle of the night for the past few days. I have walked around the house with the shotgun a couple of times but didn't see anything. Then early this morning my wife looked out to see what the dog was barking at and she saw 3 does crossing the yard. At least it wasn't ghosts.

Remington took them off the market, I hear, b/c they were BOTH less expensive and more accurate than the pricey 700s they wanted to flog.

Later... my bad. I may be confusing them with the 788, which definitely had rear lugs.

My friends dad had 3 when I was a teen and he was a reloader. In fact I inherited all his reloading equipment and books. He showed me how to reload and was my first shooting coach. He had a 222 and a 222 Magnum, and a 223. The 222 was the most accurate, but with his reloads they were all super accurate. I remember shooting them in the late 60s. I am pretty sure they were front lugs. I had to clean them and they were the first centerfire rifles I had shot so I paid close attention to the construction. Very nice rifles. My friend still has them, but he hasn't shot them since his dad died. The 788 had like 6 or 8 narrow lugs in back I believe I don't think that any rear locking bolt rifles were all that accurate.

We went through the cupboards today...a 60 count Individually wrapped box of Rice Krispy Treats expires in 7 days. A case of individually wrapped Moon pies expires in 2 weeks. A case of Frito lay chips has 4 weeks. The de-escalation level of expiration dates determines how the trick-or-treats are handed out. We deplete them resources...

Thanks, Ron, for clarifying my confusion. It WAS the 788 I was thinking of and not the 721 or 722. Sorry for the misinformation. But it WAS the 788 that got dropped for its accuracy edge over the 700. I had a 243 788 (that had the MOST beautiful wood I've ever seen on a 788) but I sold it b/c of those lugs. And it WAS a tack driver as most 788s are said to have been. I didn't have it long enough to check out the case stretching. I just don't want a gun, even an accurate one, that arrives with a "defect."

Which part don't you understand? That people eat them and claim to like them. We are going to have to pull your redneck card. I once told my wife I liked them back in the day, so about 6 months ago she bought me a 24 pack of the vanilla moon pies. I ate one and was grossed out, so they have been sitting. I am not telling her that back on the day I liked filling Kool aid packs with sugar and eat them.

Their ok just really needs a ice cold rc cola to go with them. The fresher they are the better. Rather have a Twinkie over a moo pie To be honest.
