O.A.R --several 2001-02 shows queued up--for doing chores today.
There's a rebroadcast of Crooked Still's appearance at Telluride Bluegrass this year. I haven't decided if we'll spend the dough, yet. It's on Mandolin if anyone is interested.

Peter White Christmas - a smooth jazz Christmas album with Peter White, Mindi Abair, Rick Braun. Always wanted to see them on their Christmas tour. Never did.

How about a Christmas song by a Boston Celtic punk band?

How about a Christmas song by a Boston Celtic punk band? Well that was different!!! Thanks for posting that. I've never heard a Celtic punk band before--or any "punk" band for that matter. As an aside, I have been enjoying the folk/traditional "Gaelic Revival" going on across the pond. Especially Julie Fowlis....

I like trad stuff, but also old stuff with new instruments, new stuff with trad instruments, and other weird permutations thereof.

I think of them as kind of a punk/bluegrass band. OTOH, I've lost track of them for a few year, so they may not still be playing in that style.

Well here's some fairly "new stuff" with a traditional instrument: Beth Patterson of New Orleans filmed at a local bar performing Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years." Now how weird is that? (And beautiful I might add).

I think of them as kind of a punk/bluegrass band. OTOH, I've lost track of them for a few year, so they may not still be playing in that style. Not a fan of the Avett Brothers. And I will admit I do not know the differences among all these mini "genres." So I just posted a tune attributed to a heavy metal band, and I really have no idea what "heavy metal" and punk" are. I was a kid during the British Invasion of the 60's, and loved listening to folk music. But turned my back on almost all popular music in the 70s around the arrival of KISS. That said, I play a number of instruments (as do most members of my family), none especially well, and we siblings grew up entertaining ourselves on the front porch with singing--especially tunes that lend themselves to harmony parts. I do love music, just not what is playing on the overwhelming majority of radio stations. And I have developed a passion for traditional Irish and Celtic music. So I suppose Emily and have something common in our musical tastes--which seems to be a love for the uncommon....

I have some new things to check out later!
I couldn't play the triangle in grammar school. I think I was Second Wood Block. There was a local public radio folk station-- everything from bluegrass and olde timey to Newfolk and singer/songwriters and a range of Celtic music. They ran some NPR syndicated shows like Mountain Stage and international folk. I miss it.
I saw Avett Brothers at a festival ca.2014, without having known much about them. I had media creds for the fest and saw them from a pretty intimate spot. Quite cool, but I didn't keep up with them for some reason. I do listen to plenty of newgrass, though. And jamgrass.
I'm too old for rock and roll and too smart for country. Just kidding, folks. There's nothing wrong with country music. A lot of is inane these days, though. Just kidding!

Julie Fowlis might be a little lost on me as I have no Gaelic. She's clearly a very talented vocalist, though. Hey, I don't know what the Battlefield Band were singing about, either.
Beth Patterson I like very much. Thanks!

I actually listened to them both, Josh. I liked the first one you posted better. I clicked on it expecting an assault on my aesthetic sensibilities but was pleasantly surprised. (Didn't care much for the 2nd one though).

I saw her further in!😉 Probably great musicians in the genre that they perform in, just not my cup of tea…My son would like them, he is a young whippersnapper too!
