Started a new biography of Olde George III, T he Last King of America. The author is making the argument that Olden George was not such a bad old boy. Subject to mental illness but loved the America he never saw and respectful of Parliament. FKG3 Much heralded when he assumed the Throne in 1760 by many Colonists including John Adams.

Dipping back into THE MEDITATIONS OF MARCUS AURELIUS. I do that every few months. I need to find my book by Epictetus too. Epictetus was the man. Stoicism and libertarianism (or, Classical Liberalism) are the only just systems of belief and governance for all of mankind.

Consumptive Chic: A History of Beauty, Fashion, and Disease by Carolyn A Day. 2020. Tuberculosis, mostly in Victorian era society. Don't all girls read about TB for fun?

Zach, let's avoid the political and religious inferences please. It just leads to problems.
Thanks

A lot of girls would take TB if it helped them stay skinny. They wear high heels don't they? I remember visiting my sister in the old TB hospital that was on the bayou in Houston. Long building with battens instead of windows, hundreds of beds full of sick girls. My mom was popular because she would bring a big pot of beans for the ward every Sunday. Ahh, the good old days?

Ask me about my tapeworm habit! I owe my pale skin to arsenic, as well. I've a novel about a Victorian Fasting Girl lined up next. We're all delicate, hysterical, little creatures. My granny made a crock of beans for us every Sunday--brown bread and all. My dad and I were the only ones to enjoy them. Everyone else's loss.

He believed that Farmers were the very soul and substance of Britain. He was not particularly fond of the "Money Men". Then why didn't Jefferson like him. They were on the same page.
