My Son got his concealed carry license, told me when qualifying at Range they do 3 set ups, different distances, and you have to reload your clips, no preloaded clips, when targets cane back, he had shot the center out of all of them. The instructor a Retired Marine looked at his and asked you shoot before, Son said Naw first time. He left him at that. I love that, this from a boy who drove nails in at 50 ft with a 22, whose Grandmother would place a kitchen match on a fence post and light em up at 25 ft. I’m the only Dud in the family, but I’m hell on a flying bird with a shotgun.

Last time I qualified on a military range, with a 1911, 3 magazines, and we were very clearly instructed to fire center of mass only. I was 22, so you have to take that into account. 20 rounds in the head, one neck shot. Only thing the range officer said was "smart arse."
I like your son...LOL.

I grew up hearing about some family members who were great shots. My dad's oldest sister was the best shot in his family. She used to light matches with a 22 rifle. My dad used to toss walnuts out, then shoot them "from the hip" with his 22 rifle. But the prize goes to my uncle on my mom's side of the family. My dad told me he saw him shoot a running rabbit with a revolver from the back of a galloping horse. This is my uncle. Photo was probably taken in the late 40's. Sadly, he passed last Tuesday. He loved guns. Served in the Navy from 1952 to 1960 as ..... what else, a gunners mate.

And he liked a 1911 in a tanker rig. Good choices both.

As a kid I got so good at long range shooting with my 50-cal Hawken flinter that I had to pack a little salt with the powder to preserve the meat ‘til I could get there.

The ol’ time mountain men never did transition to percussion, which came in about 1814. They figured, rightly, that you could run out of caps but you could always find a flint.

Nothing like a flintlock. Everytime it actually goes off it's a total surprise. But it will teach you not to flinch.

Nothing like a flintlock. Everytime it actually goes off it's a total surprise. But it will teach you not to flinch. Foreign flinters, especially Spanish, have given flintlocks a bad name in the past few decades. That’s unfortunate, because a good, well-made and maintained flinter will go off every time. I got tired of hunting American woods with a foreign flinter quite a while ago. Commissioned a former Williamsburg gunsmith to make me one, a York County rifle. These were first made around 1755— F&I guns at first, and served well in the rifle battalions in the Revolutionary war. Mine’s a .50, with coned barrel and Chambers lock with a Green Mountain barrel and primo tiger-stripe maple stock.. With a good flint and proper prep and maintenance it even goes off held upside down! Its name is “Nimrod”— a name shared by a forebear in the woods of western VA and over-mountain KY.

I'll stick. Property values are going sky-high. Y'all will be wanting to join us soon. CC should pass in the next legislation session.

Good info. Thanks for posting. NE’s “reluctance” re guns is entirely the result of the People’s Republiks in Lincoln and Omaha— some 400 miles east of me. Most folks out here pay no attention to them.

Austin is no longer affordable. The traffic was a nightmare 5 years ago and I can't imagine what it's like now. The already crowded clubs are even more overcrowded, subject to covid. It ain't the old Austin.

Watching a crime show tonight. A fire chief: "One of the scariest things a firefighter faces is a fire with ammo present, bullets go off and put the first responders at risk". I raised the BS flag, and explained to the family members that a round has to be chambered to build the pressure in order to present a danger. Daughter..."he is a firefighter, I think he knows what he speaks of". 12:20 to watch them light ammo on fire.

Yep Charlie, lots of BS strewn in flicks, last night I watched a 6 yr old girl fire a double barrel shotgun pulling both triggers from her hip and didn’t hardly move. Reminds me of the time I snuck out Grandpaws single shotgun12 gauge when he was at the feed store. I climbed up on railing of pig enclosure , sat on top rail like the cowboys fired that sucker, knocked me clean off in the pig shite wallow, shotgun didnt fare that good either. Good thing my Grandmaw cleaned me up and the shotgun, had a big bruise on my shoulder for a while..
