Wow, vaccine side effects knocked me out of commission for most of the day. I snuck in a bowl of Haunted Bookshop, smoked between rounds of napping. Feeling good enough now to catch up on the doings in the Patch. Happy Friday to all of you.

I did not detect any eye of newt in the BBB. Pffft. Because you have the palate of a philistine. I've never even had BBB, and I can taste the newt eye!

Yeah, a bit of birdseye. Amazingly , Erik graded it C in his system of A down to D. I've seen people describe bird's eye as inferior, and less desirable to most pipers. I think that's nuts. The grade A Erik Nielsen pipes that I have seen are straight/flame grains. This grade C cross grain Billiard does have two small bald spots. One is about 1/4” and the other is about 1/8”. I also know that Erik grades down if there is something that he doesn’t like about the shaping. Looking from the front of pipe, it does have a small bit of asymmetry in the profiles of the left and right sides of the bowl. Throw in that Danish pipe makers tend to be really picky about their grading...

I love this tobacco, for me it’s what tobacco should be. It’s like coffee for me. I like my coffee black and strong, because I actually like the taste of coffee. Cream, sugar, chocolate, pumpkin spice etc.. they have their place but they don’t taste like coffee to me. Agreed sir. I've got a jar of flake from 2015 still stewing that I really want to crack into, but I've got a few open tins to finish up first. Professor S. try the ODF in a cob, it's heavenly. It's strong, but not "punch you in the mouth" strong, with just a hint of sweetness that continued to surprise me. fadingdaylight you *did* send me that nice, little cob. I haven't used it yet, but you make a compelling argument

Chatham Manor in my RobE olive wood Apple-Brandy. That's a beauty of a pipe, John! I discovered, quite by accident, that the modem in our house manages to provide a decent signal in the barn! I've brought out one of the little signal-boosting pods and can now sit and smoke thoughtfully as I look over the most recent iteration of one student's doctoral dissertation (or catch up on The Patch). 50/50 C&D Visions of Celephaïs/Golden Harvest Extra, still in the Grabow freehand. A cup of hamartiological coffee to accompany.

I love coffee, wish I could drink it at night, but when I do, I am staring at the ceiling when I should be sleeping. Color me envious. Iced tea is even worse! None past 2 PM.

In the meantime, I think I'll look for a blend I haven't had in a while. The change of pace may perk me up a bit. Might be a good time to dip into the Grousemoor.

I think this was my 2nd or 3rd bowl. The Ropp Etudiant I used tonight has a miniscule bowl, that only took 15 minutes to smoke. And that may be just enough. Moving on to something you're more accustomed to seeing me post - Mac Baren Navy Flake in a Peterson System P-Lip, shape 312.

April 17th More montford point marine in various pipes. I swear the last bowl was a taste trip to bootcamp. Slight hint of old aftershave, musty footlocker, and leather. All surrounded by a dark slightly sweet core. Quite potent yet somewhat civilized.
