I’ve recently become interested in leather covered pipes. Never gave them much notice before, but they are, to me anyway, quite interesting. I’ve acquired a few smoked examples, and they are quite nice. They smoke very well. I picked up a few more the other day.

They look interesting, for sure. I'm undecided as to whether or not I like them.

Welcome to the Patch. Never had a leather covered pipe. Does the leather insulate so the pipe doesn't get as hot on the hand?

Welcome from "The Tarheel State". I have seven Longchamp pipes (smoked & unsmoked) I love the way they smoke.

Welcome from AZ!
There's a couple of those in my collection but they don't get smoked much. I'll check for pics.

Welcome aboard. Those pipes became very popular with GI's in Europe at the end of WW II. Legend has it that the leather wrap was used to hide less than attractive but very smokable briar. I think they look pretty cool.

Welcome to the Patch. Never had a leather covered pipe. Does the leather insulate so the pipe doesn't get as hot on the hand? The leather is rather thin, probably just under 1/16" thick. So it does insulate to a certain degree. Usually when my pipe gets warm, I tend to set it down...

I think they look pretty cool. That's what I've read, too. While I have seen leather covered pipes in the past, I never really gave them much thought. Someone on another forum posted about one they got and it prompted me to look into them. They are somewhat unique, and have a certain appeal.

Welcome to the Patch!
I heard about them, never seen on up close. It is like a lot of things if you like it then you are golden.

Very nice leather work. I would imagine they would get a rich patina as they age with careful use. Never thought much about them until you brought them up. I'm guessing the COO is Italy? Thanks for showing them!

I think the COO is France. Paris France to be exact.... see the case in my post. Them cats in St. Claude would probably never wrap a briar in leather. If they caught you, it would probably be off to the guillotine! I like mine though. Nice looking pipes by the way, Craig. Welcome to the forum.
