From Mike Garr, United Pipe Clubs Of America. To be charitable, the last paragraph is disingenuous...If you are the consumer, we will not come after you. If you are the consumer, you will have no place to get your tobaccos as we shut down the industry.
These people really suck.

If aromatics were to fall, there would go pipe tobacco as a whole. Aros are their top sellers and what's keeping the lights on. The attack on menthol however is racially motivated as menthol has been deemed racist.

It has been said far and wide that if it were not aromatic smokers, those of us that enjoy unflavored would be in a world of hurt.

The narrative is that Big Tobacco targeted minority demographics with menthol, sure. Useless data point: my dad, a WASP, smoked Salems for decades.

There is enough time for special interests to take action here (I hope). While I enjoy non-flavored tobacco, I do enjoy aromatics as well.
I have always been vehemently against agencies independently promulgating regulations (whether Congress has delegated authority or not). This will have a lot of pushback, but unless action is taking to remove the authority, this does look dire.
Makes me want to get into tobacco lobbying. The economic impact this could potentially have would likely startle many politicans.

If you travel extensively or live in another country, you learn one major thing about people: they're all the same. I'm talking whether you're visiting some remote tribe living on some island you've never heard of that ate the last people that came to see them, or the King and Queen of freaking Sweden; they're all the same.
They're like dogs - while there are differences between a yappy little ball of terror and a big, friendly gentle guy, they're all still dogs. No, that's a wolf, looks like a dog, but different. Dogs are dogs.
You also learn that politicians are the same, whether you are on the left, right, middle, conservative, liberal or a dadgum communist: politicians all suck.
They constantly lie, and will exploit any opportunity to gain more power and control at the expense of your freedoms and liberties.
Screw you FDA, I should be able to smoke menthol cigarettes or aromatic tobaccos if I freaking want to.

Exactly, my life, my body, my decision. Same theory would have to be applied to drugs also...not gonna happen in our lifetime. Bottom line is cellar what you smoke and then you don't have to worry about the future of our smoking luxury/habit/lifestyle.

What kills me is that if the government was so worried about our health, they should provide healthcare for everyone. Until they do that I feel they are being hypocrites about their concern for our health. That's my thought, and I'm sticking to it!

After re-reading the article, it seems that the targets are only menthol cigarettes flavored cigars, they mean to target Black and Milds, etc. But the net will catch everything including Nub Nuance and Drew Estate Javas. Of course, this is a clear red flag that aromatic pipe tobaccos won't be far behind, but to your point, we do still have a little time to build up the cellars. Guess I better get another order together.

As has already been mentioned, there is not one reference to pipe tobacco in this new regulation.
There is data that proves that the younger generation is more likely to start smoking/vaping something that tastes sweet or has a "flavor" outside that of just plain old tobacco. Be it menthol, black and milds, coffee, what have you.
I agree it's a slippery slope, and I'm not FOR regulation that could open the flood gates, but let's not all get our panties in a bunch just because we are looking for a new topic to get fired up about.

You're not wrong. With that said, once another alternative arises to circumvent the regulation it is a short step to ban "flavored tobacco" writ large. I am in favor of not getting worked up over it, I just wish they could accomplish the goal of including black and milds, or similar cigars, without including the likes of Drew Estate and others.

Got it. Thanks. I might have still been asleep and not all my wheels were spinning. Very welcome my friend. No worries, my wheels don't start spinning until it's nearly bedtime, then I have to start all over to get them spinning. It's a vicious cycle.đ

As for keeping, I have some Altadis Chocolate Truffle from 2010 jarred that tastes like the new stuff.

I have seen how regulations are incrementally introduced and expanded. The proverbial âCamelâs nose under the tentâ. I would be amazed if aromatic pipe tobacco wasnât banned soon after these regulations go into place, because undoubtedly the bureaucrats will complain that there is a ryo loophole in tobacco labeled as pipe tobacco in order to be an end run around the laws that preserve humanity.

As I discovered in WA, somethings wonât happen because of the politicianâs personal appetites. To many rich and powerful people people smoke cigars, they will find a way to exempt their baby. If it comes to banning all aromatic tobacco, and the wording snares cigars, I think it will fade away. Menthol cigarettes are done, but theyâre just a straw man. Itâs posturing. Iâm not too smart but thatâs how I see it.
