May 6th. Started the day very early so I had two pipes before 7am. union hall and an odd full bowl of my remaining lancers slices. I find time away does make the heart grow fonder for a blend and this is still that warm smokey meat tang and good power blend that carried me through two winters while I learned which new blends could work for me. my first tins varied, escudo, acadian perque, reiner golden flake, a few others, 4th generation:(.. all full of bite or unbalanced flavors).. finally found latakia and balkans. most english were bite filled but some were good. anyhoo, I finally found c&d, SPC, GLP, which all have great offerings to my tastes so lancers was tinned up and has been sitting. while i have mason lids and rings ordered, the SPC plastic lids do pretty good and I keep it all in a low stable humidity so the long flake had a nice firm feel and a bit more texture when I rubbed out a bowl. while no extra flavors appeared the overall was smoother and richer. Think my first long term mason jar might be lancers slices if only to have an old friend at hand now I am buying tins and not 500gm factory units.(my current stocks being the leftover of the last 500gm). As a wintertime quick bowl, lancers stood out more in the cold where many others would fade giving a much needed lift. with rain gone and temps dropping tonight the evenings bowl is going to be lancers..but only due to no joe krantz being open...lol hope all have a great day

Finally home after a “fun” day of rehab at the VA. It didn’t go as well as I’d hope and I’ll be heading back next week for more physio. Yay what fun... Not!
Decided to reward myself with a bowl of Exhausted Rooster in my Savinelli Onda while smelling fresh cut grass on my lawn.

I was hoping for a sweep of the Tigers by Red Sox, but they struggled for what they got. Baseball can be weird like that and that's just how I like it. Red Sox started the year 0-3 at home against Baltimore. Then they pulled their act together. They have another series at Baltimore starting tomorrow. Who knows? Tigers might even get out of the basement this season! Just teasing, of course.
Anyway, smoking: I have Erik Stokkebye Evening Flake ready to go in a Kaywoodie bulldog.
