Yesterday I smoked a couple bowls of McClelland 5100/Red Cake in a French Jeantet Royale Army Mount Billiard. I got this pipe a number of years ago unsmoked. Probably made in the late1960’s-1970’s. It’s a great smoker...

May 7th. Friday is not always a party prep day but at 74° sunny, mild breeze, the forecast weekend rain makes today THE party day! early waking but late rising gave a warmer start to a bowl of montford point marine. The punch of this blend varies during the burn which gives a balanced start to the day. savi 515 rusticated panel billiard. second bowl was union square (glp) in the pete x105 newgrange spigot. this pipe is a bit on the smaller bowl size which gives an intensity boost similar to a taper bowl just not as pronounced. So the richness of the blend matched flavor to the end. I always know everything is working right if the end of the smoke and the end of the bowl coincide. On deck are two treats. (it is fridaypartyday!) pete ebony 107 spigot carefully packed with a large amount redcarpet (c&d). the wide, deep, bowl really tames the spice of any blend resulting in redcarpet being delicate and light on the tongue. Of the pipes I own this one treats the blend the best. Finally, the truly indomintable pete special series barrel army mount. this gigantic monolith of briar is filled with spc plum pudding.. I was going to cut a slice off the plug but I noticed I had just enough loose in the tin from other cuttings for a load... I am curious what this tiny pipe will do to a blend I know very well. I am thinking it will be very intense as the bowl is narrow and quite deep. Have a great day

Started out the day with Visions of Cephelais in that fantastic little Icarus that Jason fadingdaylight sent me. When that was done, I switched to Yale Mixture in the same pipe and smoked several bowls throughout the day. I love it when this pipe comes up in the rotation!
