Well, Eli's new "indestructible" crate pad lasted four hours. Chewed thru the cover in five places. Contacting them and they are sending a replacement. THIS TIME, I will put it away until he is really ready for one. GSPs tend to grow out of that bed-destruction compulsion sometime after a year of age. At 15-months I guess it will take him a little longer He will be heartbroken. I can only imagine what he can tear up considering the damage our Yorkie can do. “I sowee for chewy my new mat. Can I have another pwease?”

Say it ain't so...funny, none of our critters have ever torn up stuff...wonder why that is?

Say it ain't so...funny, none of our critters have ever torn up stuff...wonder why that is? She chewed everything when she was a pup. Now she rarely chews up anything, but she will get a wild hair and tear up one of her toys or a hose or some other random object. What she can do to a bully stick would make you cringe.

The bitter apple sprays available at the pet store are usually pretty effective at preventing Fido from chewing up what Fido is not suppose to chew up.
Powdered alum does the trick also...mix with water and make a paste...one taste and you want no more of that...probably close to brushing your teeth with preparation H.

Brought home 50 lbs of elk and sheep bones and meat scraps from a meat cutter. This is the time of year they are quite busy. Cost me one 12 X 16 ounce pack of "Coor's Light". Gave some to a friend with six dogs of various sizes from Pug to Pyrenees. Gave another pile to my next door neighbor who has a young Labrador Retriever. These are bones with meat on them so are quite welcome.

I have to watch my GSPs carefully with bones. They crack them and that results in sharp splinters. When that starts I confiscate them and ditch 'em— over protests of course.

Quit giving my dogs bones a long time ago, my Old English Sheepdog Columbo, quit eating and drinking for about 3 days, I was in the middle of a turnaround when wife says some thing is wrong with Colombo. I tried to open his mouth and he wouldn’t let me, finally got it open and a bone was piercing his upper mouth, got a pair of pliers and finally gor it out, the wife had given him some soup bones, one had a sharp point. After that no bones for my dogs, I want to say my dogs eat as good as I do, but no bones.

OK, I just ordered some. You mix it into water and "paint" it on?
Re-read your original post. Got it! Thanks.

A very tiny amount made into a paste should do the trick. Canine receptors are much more sensitive than ours, and a flirt with alum will tell the dogs “I seen this movie and it sucks”.

She finally ripped up her 5 year old Lambchop so I broke down and got her a new one. She carries it everywhere.

Made our puppy some dog food today. A mixture of brown rice, chicken breast and scrambled eggs. Make it about once a month as a supplement to her regular dog food. She has a sensitive digestive system. Nothing too debilitating, but if she eats the wrong thing, she'll have diarrhea for a week to 10 days, and most of the time we don't know exactly what it was that set her off. AND, if she goes without eating for 6 to 7 hours, she throws up. I have to feed her at midnight to get her through the night. Hopefully she will out grow it, but she's more than a year old now.
The homemade food is gentle on her system. I made it for our last dog who needed it due to extreme old age. And we recently switched her regular dog food to one for sensitive stomachs. So far, so good. She hasn't had any problems for 3 months now.

She still has time to grow out of it, Monty. Ya never know. Sounds pretty unpleasant for her.

Sadly, I've just had to complain for a second time about the noise from my neighbor's dog. They bought it, and then changed nothing about their lives or schedules. They go off and leave it alone all day, every day, including most evenings and weekends. They come home and let it out for 10 minutes before bedtime, and that's about it. Unsurprisingly, it gets lonely, barks, whines, and howls, like it's doing now.
The dog's gonna get the raw end of the deal, but the problem is the owners. Knuckin' fuckleheads.

They get in over their heads sometimes. That's okay. But then you have to do something about it. You don't just leave it for everybody else (including the poor dog, in this case) to deal with.

Lots of dogs get out from their homes around here but they soon get adopted if they don't get claimed. There is one family in town that had a dog that barked and howled all day and night. The police were parking across from the house 2 or 3 times a day so when the neighbors complained they were right there. I don't know what the resolution was but I haven't seen any complaints on the town website for a couple of weeks. We're in the sticks so we don't have any of those problems. In the old neighborhood people were keeping chickens and donkeys. That brought a lot of complaints to the HOA, but we had to tell them to call the sheriff and they didn't have time for those kind of problems. Some people just suck.
