I thought there was already a thread called "DOGS" but bedanged if I can find it. So I start a new one. Still toiling in the thorny vineyard of file-filing and am feeling a bit nostalgic. So, at the risk of boring some folks, I'm going to post doggie-pics as I find some I would like to share. Feel free to ignore! This is my Emma casting a field when we lived up-country. In my experience with GSPs it is the females who are the dogged (!) 200% hunters: implacable, relentless, never letting up. Emma was certainly that.

This is my "baby" now. My last "baby" before Lexxi above. MissElli was a pure white female chihuahua..never barked and loved us dearly...had epilepsy, went blind and then couldn't stand up anymore...with a broken heart we had to put her down. She is buried next to her 2 brothers and sister. Before we had MissElli, we had a trio of chihuahuas, until they passed across the Rainbow Bridge. This is Pierre. We call him St. Pierre because he was a terrible mess that was found in a dumpster almost dead. Pierre had a brother and a sister in our home...he finally had his "pack". This is his sister Cassie. and his brother Pepe below. Having small dogs that are smart and attentive to your every mood is a love affair that you rarely, if ever, have with another human. They are special in so many ways...I felt they deserved their own resting place for eternity. There are 4 graves there now with room for the last. Sorry to have dragged this up again, but since a new thread was started, I felt they belonged here once more.

This is Simon. He’s a rescue, he came with the wife. He is super protective. It took months for him to take to me, he doesn’t like anyone else but my wife and I. He has been the best dog for our baby. Instantly took to her, they’re thick as thieves now and she throws him treats from her high chair and he does wacky shite that makes her laugh.

On a really fine autumn Sandhills day Emma and Jack and I would pile into the Rhino and head out for a full-day hunt, on which we would cover ten or more miles. They would ride or run along as we moved from place to place. Some days we'd come back with pheasant, grouse, or prairie chicken and some days we would come home empty handed. It never mattered all that much, it was the day that counted. This pic shows the pair after such a hunt. Probably more than twenty miles under their feet and still ready for more. (That day was a wash-out as I remember. Them no care.

I think that this set of graves has been more lavishly decorated than many human graves I've seen. Your bambinos were certainly very special.

This is Tiffany. She started out looking like this: Here she is a couple months ago. Lost almost all of her color. She'll be 1 year old in August. She's supposed to be my wife's dog, but she's in love with me. Wife is jealous!

Wonderful dogs! They make us into better humans, if we are capable. And speaking of smiles... "DOGS DON'T SMILE!" Oh, yeah? Think again. Here's Jack, a few years ago, when we got back from town with his rations. (This was before I impoverished myself by putting them all special diets.) So, dogs don't smile?

Yeah, dogs smile...just have to watch and pay attention to their facial expressions...makes for being a better human also.

He’s looking at the cats, they love his food, and twirl around his feet, he chases them, but without intention to harm them.

When I was a little fella, my Mon had a bible study with a very old couple...I was playing with one of my first puppies, and Ma remarked about how much that pup and I loved each other. The old gal looked at us like we were witless fools and said, in a sage-like voice " dogs can't love , only humans can love, because only humans have souls " then, she followed with " there'll be no dogs in heaven "
What a load of crap!!! I'm sure this was the first time my faith was shaken. Much later I read a quote by Robert Lewis Stevenson where he wrote " Yes ,there will be dogs in Heaven, and cats too by God!"
I think Stevenson had more on the ball than the old gal we studied with. I couldn't have been more than five or six, but I still think of that whenever I think of the love shared between pets and their owners.

The hell with that old crone. Will Rogers said “If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.”
When Jack passes God help the SOB that “consoles” me with the comment that he was only a dog.

Even if the old biddy was correct, that was a cruel thing to do to a kid, and not her responsibility to "set them straight". That is like going up to a strangers kid and telling them how babies are made, the truth about Santa and the Easter bunny. I heard Chuck Swindoll years ago comment on some people that looked like they were baptized in lemon juice, I imagine that the old lady had that look.

I figure that the poor, misguided old lady went to a mighty empty Heaven...if not, I bet the sound of dogs barking is keeping her from a peaceful rest.
