I figured it would last until the first softball sized hail. Nice roof though. That'll do it too. But aren't there Spanish/Mexican style buildings with those curved tile roofs in Texas? Very few. Rich peoples homes and a few west of San Antonio. They don't hold up to hail or 2 inch per hour rain.

Finished some fresh GH & Co. Bosun Plug in this 1970 Dr Grabow Grand Duke lovat moments ago. This is like the lighter version of Coniston plug. Where Coniston has even more of the same flavoring on all dark fired VA, the Bosun is Virginia and Malawi burley with slightly less of the clove and geranium oils in it, and there seems to be a faint note of some Scotch whisky in there.

Some fresh Gawith Hoggarth Ennerdale Flake in a Kaywoodie Saxon sandblasted panel. Jar on the left is fresh Ennerdale that just arrived today in the mail, while the jar on the right is some Ennerdale Flake jarred in July of 2016. I think you can tell how blackened and fermented it's gotten just at a glance. It's still great fermented and aged, but Ennerdale is simply much better fresh to my tastes. Whereas something like Orlik Golden Sliced is much better with 10 years age on it. Those Ennerdale toppings are just sharper and so mouthwatering while fresh.

That makes sense since the toppings in the G&H lineup are what gives them their distinctiveness, much like an aged aromatic.

Oh man, It's so incredibly nuanced fresh, I've really missed this. I'm tasting the citrus, liquor, floral, almond and bright VA and it just tastes absolutely fantastic fresh. But I've been smoking the 2016 Ennerdale the past couple days, many bowls, and what it ends up tasting like is fermented aged VA that takes the lead, with a bit of funky baby powder/almond/floral aged but it loses all the citrus, and almond and like well aged Bob's Chocolate Flake it's just not the same thing anymore. It completely morphs into a new blend. Like I say, it's still plenty good aged but I hate to say that it's nothing at all like the same thing and refreshing on the palate.
You hit the nail perfectly, Charlie. It's aging an aromatic, where everything morphs and gets out of balance, loses some of the toppings and the mouthwatering, refreshing aspects of the smoke.
I think the lesson I've learned is all the Lakeland tobaccos, especially the more sauced with multiple flavorings are just way better and meant to be smoked fresh. Which makes sense but puts us Americans in a conundrum as we attempt to stockpile rare blends just to have a supply of them on hand and since they have been really hard to come by the past 8-9 years or so. Gawith say they are sold out in backorder for 18-24 months at a time.

Good morning Patch! Been up for a while, indulged in enough coffee and a pipeful of Royal Yacht in my Shell Briar 4120 Cherrywood (2015) and I am motivating myself (i.e., kicking myself in the ar$%) to head out to the gym. Enjoy your Saturday!

Morning Miele of Balkan mix and Yorkshire tea. How you making out with both the tigress and mother tigress at home? Feeling the need to go hide in a bothy for a few weeks yet?

Let's just say I've spent a lot of time on that balcony. The adjoining room is also my home office, so I've managed to use the "I have a meeting soon," excuse with great success thus far.

wishing all to have a nice weekend. In from usual full walks, no-band 6x42 for company (to be finished later out on back porch). After the Ed is fed, Abingdon in Castello "Castello" bent dublin, round bottom. Hopefully nothing important to do besides a litle "spot watering" for wifie's hanging plants
