2014 GH & Co. Revor Plug in a 1937 Dr Grabow De Luxe 9773 tiny little Rhodesian/bullcap. It's my birthday and I'm trying to bust out some specials. Not popping a 1999 McClelland tin but thought about it all day.

It's not Christmas Cheer, but I've got some of them as well just not that old. It's a McClelland's Oriental #12 tin. Contrary to what some say about 20 years+ of age, it varies. For instance the 22 year old Accountant's Mixture I smoked earlier of course has the latakia softened, but it's super delicious. I pretty much fully agree with Greg Pease in this area of aging discussion. Some blends just don't age as well and especially topped blends in my experience. I'm now prepping some 2014 Mick McQuaid plug to be smoked in a 1970 Dr Grabow Grand duke lovat. These plugs were pressed in neutron stars! Sadly, the last of the true traditional and defunct Irish plugs.
Thank you guys for the birthday wishes!

Salty dog with a salty dog .
Both the tobacco and the gin cocktail with grapefruit juice and salt.
They actually pair well.

After an evening on the deck smoking Haunted Bookshop and Watch City Slices, I've settled in front of the laptop with Salty Dogs in a sandblasted Savinelli Nonpareil 1/4 bent Billiard. Son-in-law enjoyed the Watch City Slices. Brother-in-law (brand new to piping) tried some gifted Grousemoor. He gave it back to me. For now, he's happy with lighter aromatics. And that's OK.

Although mild in terms of being a Lakeland tobacco, it is still there and most either love it or hate it. If you have some Stokkebye bullseye flake, (especially with age) which is easy to prepare and has a cavendish center, it might scratch his itch. Regardless, if he is content with aromatics..."smoke what you like, like what you smoke."

Regardless, if he is content with aromatics..."smoke what you like, like what you smoke." I'm not pushing him too hard, he's brand-new at this. He was checking out jars of my tobacco, and thought the Grousemoor had an appealing tin note. So, I told him it was his. He didn't care for it in the pipe. Not for everyone. I don't care for it either. Saves me from trying any of the other Lakelands. Right now, he's happy with 1Q, Creme Brulee and LL-7. I think that's where a lot of pipesmokers begin their journey, and many stay with those blends. I told him that he's got plenty of opportunity to explore different tobacco styles (at my house) and there's no need to hurry.

Trying a new-to-me blend (trying to get a couple new ones with my regular cellar orders), C & D Five o'clock Shadow in the Friday cob. So far, I like it. Tangy, spicy, and DFK smokey.

Having some Milan's My Finest Kind in a Lorenzo billiard...up at 5am with a restless beagle. I think I'll start the coffee and stay up, as there's only a dim hope of getting back to sleep...I'll be knocked out in the recliner by noon.
