I've poked around a bit, just for fun. I don't want a figural or claw and egg type pipe. I like more traditional shapes with the geometric carving. Goldbrick - Herb, where did you get yours?

I had a similar one that was a pretty good smoker, but I just didn't use it. I gave it to Mrlunting. 🙁

This pipe came as one of four stemless meer bowls...I picked the best of the four and sent it to Guy Wallace for a stem...Guy picked a rod that I think is perfect for the pipe , and stemmed it for me at a whopping 35 bucks...the four bowls cost me 27 dollars {a very early ebay purchase} and I ended up selling one for 25, for a non-smoker to display. This is my best smoking meer...a beagle I owned at one time, chewed through the fitted case. Thank goodness he stopped as he got to the stem , he was more of a briar guy anyway.

Very nice Herb. One of these days I'm going to add a meer to my stable.
Brad, that thing is a beast!

While I enjoy seeing all the intricately carved meers, I went with something very simple.

My favorite meer is this one. I've had this one for over 50 years and it was owned by my former boss at a pipe shop for over 50 years...it has an amber stem so I don't smoke it much. I enjoy this one a lot too.

The top four are the beginning of a seven day set. I've got a purple stemmed IMP apple not pictured but the four figurals are seasonal avatars. The photos are a bit deceiving too, The top four are nearly as large as the bottom four. The smallest of the bunch has a 2 inch deep chamber.

This is my only meer - except for one meerschaum lined pipe. It belonged to my father-in-law. Smokes pretty good.

Took a picture off my meers today. The lattice billiard is currently my favorite to smoke. I bought the carved head almost 30 years ago. The smaller bent is my homage to the Col Mortimer pipe in the "For a Few Dollars More". I wanted one that was plain, so it would age on its own. The larger bent billiard in the back that looks like it has a cobra hood is un-smoked. I love the design, but the bowl is much larger than I usually smoke. I am trying to find the right blend to try in it. They don't get smoked much. I should probably remedy that.

I've never picked up a meerschaum pipe and examined it, but the pics I've seen (of presumably Turkish meer), none of them have any striations like that. Am I just missing it in the photos, or is this unusual?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SepioliteI am guessing that the striations are a result of the Meerschaum being inferior to Turkish? I just don't know. After reading this, I am guessing that they mined the lake, (1950-1970) and as opposed to Turkish Meerschaum which comes from the ocean, maybe not as clean?
