Similar to what Pete said, I typically stock up extra ABS stems from Missouri Meerschaum, but last time I bought a bag of them I think they were like 35-45 cents? They go up yearly. That, and a few of my cobs already have acrylic stems, and you may look to buy cobs with them. I've even got a freehand cob with a vulcanite stem. You don't need to buy forever stems for every cob, you can easily buy 1-2 of them and move them from cob to cob as you smoke them. The forever stems I've used personally didn't fit well, anyway. I prefer to chew up my ABS cob stems over a year or two and then just put another one on. I don't go through them even once per year, either. Have about 20 cobs and always buying more.
That all being said, when I wanted to last buy one they'd changed hands from WalkerBriarWorks, to LogCabinWorks, went out of production, and then switched to VermontFreehand? So I will likely order one or two sometime soon for my favorites.

I buy the "Danish" bits. I think they are a couple of bucks each, but I like them a lot and I haven't chewed one yet. Edit: I have been buying them from eBay with free shipping, They are only 80¢ at MM.

I've got a Danish bit on my bent Great Dane Egg that's fairly chewed up, but they do last longer. Had that one since 2013, same stem on it most of these years.

I like to consider them "fitted" to my clench, not chewed up.

I like to consider them "fitted" to my clench, not chewed up. Exactly! I have one of my older favorite Mark Twain cobs with teeth indents that my teeth perfectly lock into, and as long as the stem can pass a pipe cleaner, I just pretty much keep the same stem on it.

Good morning! And yet another day ahead. I am starting it with a mix of Captain Black Original & Dunhill Ye Olde Signe in my Bruyere Quaint 4 Bent Apple. There will be an industrial quantity of coffee involved, this morning.

September 11th. The whirlwind I been riding seems to finally be slowing down. This morning is mississippi mud (c&d) in the newgrange x105 spigot peterson. On this fine morning it is good to sit and think about all that has happened since those three buildings got tired and fell down twenty years ago. hope everyone has a moment today to remember all we lost
