Nice work, Pete. That one really cleaned up well! Thanks, I actually surprised myself a little. Cosmetically, it wasn't as difficult as it was expecting. Sanded the finish off the entire stummel and sanded the char off the rim. Lightly restained the stummel and decided to wax it instead of reglazing. The internals was another matter, though. Pretty thick cake in the bowl. The draft holes in the stem and shank were nasty. Took about 25 pipe cleaners (bristle and fluffy) with alcohol to clean all that gunk out. Smokes very well now. No ghost!

I used to use a couple of packages of pipe cleaners to clean the shanks on estate pipes. Then I started using a 4.5mm drill bit in a hand drill. Then I use a retort and oiala.

Guess I need to do some more research. Meanwhile, I've got a bowl of Haunted Bookshop burning in the rusticated cob, aka Frankenstein.

A retort. That's what I was trying to think of. They work, but you have to get most of the solid crap out first. And I use boiling water on an induction hotplate to heat the alcohol. Everclear and open flame is a recipe for disaster.

I used to know a girl bartender who was burned in an accident caused by Everclear. She was gorgeous from one side. And she was the owner of the bar.

I think I might just stick with elbow grease. An alcohol retort may not be suitable for clumsy me.

Yeah, I'm thinking it'll be Carolina Red Flake all over again. Maybe worse, since they're a smaller outfit. They'll be working hard. No trick-or-treating for the Watch City folks.

Haddo's Delight from 2001 ,in a Savory Argyll pot, with my morning coffee. Good solid red Virginia and burley, with just a hint something sweet. The dark fruit ,that reviewers speak of, must have fallen to the garden floor a few years back. Only a whisper, that could be the perique or the rum topping, peeks out now and then throughout the bowl.

Cold and very rainy morning. Definitely an indoor day today. Started with Haunted Bookshop in the Monday cob and coffee in the cave, in front of the TV.
