I was reading through the MLB thread and decided to create one on my favorite sport, the NHL. I love seeing the expansion teams of the Las Vegas Golden Knights and the Seattle Krakens. I was out in Las Vegas for the World of Concrete back in June and I was impressed by how the locals proudly displayed their Golden Knights car bumper stickers, hats and jerseys, not to mention the fair amount of support for the raiders. But it was hockey playoffs and most were supporting their hockey team. I know old school NHL fans may have something to say about these expansions and the NHL in general but as for me I love the sport and welcome the new teams and will enjoy watching them when I can. Of course I will always be rooting for my Detroit Redwings over any other team but hockey is a sport that I can watch any teams go at it. No other sport is like that for me.

Big Red Wings fan here. I've suffered and celebrated with them almost all my life. Indifferent to most teams that came into the league post '67, and a few that I love to hate (that's what makes rivalries so much fun).

Houston used to have a team, can't remember the name. I got free tickets a few times and went twice just to have something to do. Gordie Howe was playing and he was supposed to be a big deal. Seemed like hours of fighting with brief interruptions for skating with a stick. I never got the point.

When I lived in Dallas, I was a big Stars fan. Since I moved to NY I have only been able to catch a few games due to COVID, but I still love my Stars.

NHL is mostly a winter patch to get us through times of no baseball. We do follow the Bruins to some extent. I'm terribly nearsighted, though, and it's hard to see who's who--let alone where the puck is--without my spectacles. Falling asleep with glasses on gets expen$ive, so I mostly listen to third periods before falling asleep.
Go Bs!

ESPN+ hosed us out of last week's games for some reason, but we have seen the rest of the Bruins. We have to watch on a laptop lately, so i can actually see what's going on sans eyeglasses. They are on fire and blazing their way to the Cup this year. It's nice to see after the misery that was 2022 Red Sox. And Mom is happy the Celts are doing well. Anyway, this popped up in my newsfeed and I got a kick out of it: Bruins Dman keeping up cardio fitness by carrying his dog up and down stairs during injury recovery. My boy is about 39kg, so that's not happening here! nesn.com/2022/11/derek-forbort-injury-bruins-defenseman-still-weeks-away/

Cool. I've a friend in Rolley, but he doesn't follow the 'Canes. His loss, ha ha.
I think NHL was more popular in the 70s than today? Or at least televised more? Maybe it just seems that way to me, but with two older siblings that played, it was always on. For a lot of years I didn't watch much and then when our nephews started playing hockey we watched some Bruins so I could 'splain the game to my wife. She was hooked almost immediately and she looks forward to every game.

Fan of hockey since I was a boy. We used to go watch the OKC Blazers. Minor league, but we always enjoyed the games. Watched the Denver Spurs, then the Colorado Rockies. I also root for the Pioneers in college hockey. Of course I have been an Avs fan since they moved here. It was a very good year, last season, needless to say. I also enjoy Olympic hockey.

I don't watch college hockey now, but at UMaine, you bet I went to see the Black Bears' home games! And I've gone to a few Beanpot games for the Boston schools. I met Mike Eruzione and Jim Craig at a Beanpot game, speaking of Olympics. I enjoyed the women's Olympic games last time around--a little more finesse and less brute force, maybe. I'll definitely watch them next time.

“I was out in Las Vegas for the World of Concrete back in June”
On June 26th, I was there when I broke my tibia plateau(26th), at that time I was in no shape to hang out. But I am there once per month, if any of you Hooligans are there, let me know. Beers are on me if the scheduling connects.

Watching the Red Wings play the Predators right now. The Wings have improved much over recent seasons. Their record is better than the analytics suggest. But, lots of energy and effort most nights. Fun to watch them again.

That's great. It's definitely better when your team is fighting for it.
Bs look tired tonight. Not as much fun to watch! Down 4-2 to Panthers mid 3rd.

Yes! They earned that loss and they can't win them all. Matinee tomorrow. I hope they get back on track.

Carolina Hurricanes fan here, not much into hockey until Carolina moved to Raleigh. then I was able to watch it and really enjoyed it. They're in Boston tomorrow at 1pm. ESPN+ is supposed to carry all the games that aren't on national networks and this is on New England Sports Network, as usual. It's not showing up, though. This would be the third game they've jerked us on. It's almost the entirety of my entertainment budget these days, so I'm not best pleased. Ideally I would just subscribe to NESN directly for Bs and Sox, but Spectrum doesn’t carry it, the egg suckers. Of course Spectrum just sent me a bill for the month since I canceled the installation on a house I'm not living in. And it's an interminable phone wait to talk to a live person to explain that there is no cable at a house I'm not living in. If only those were my biggest problems! [/rant] tl;dr: blow up your tv

There's something you don't see every day, Chauncey.
If you put the sound on, you can almost hear Jack Edwards wet his pants as he calls the play.

Granted, I do not watch much hockey, but I have never seen that done. A hole in one is more common!

I remember that the Houston team was the Aeros. Honestly, doesn't the high ratio of fighting to playing bother anyone else? From what I've seen it's closer to wrestling that a real sport.

Been watching the NHL since Brad Park, Espo and Bobby Orr. You know, Eddie Shore...old time hockey. Played at a high level. The NHL has changed so much in the past 20 years I hardly recognize it anymore. I am not a fan of the direction.
You can't touch anyone and there's no fighting. Boring as hell.
Ron...for you.

You can always watch Slap Shot. It's not exaggerated from the 70s.
