Peteguy is one stand up guy... Grabow's were a common gift under the tree of Christmas's past....and I am sure Boswell is a great pairing. How come aged tobacco fares well, us not so much? One might say they were better at 20 years of age as well.
And I'll join ya with the aged Newminster Superior Round slices. Mine are 2014 vintage. In a Savinelli unfinished 904KS.

I've never bothered with it before, but this time I took all the stem pieces out for this bowl.

Your photo like mine is full of the cut up stem. I just picked them out this time but they've never bothered my smoke just experimenting to see if the flavor's better without them.
The stem pieces from those 4 coins in my first picture.

I come across those frequently on the 'bay. Wondered if anyone here had one. How's it smoke? I've got a half dozen, 1 or 2 are unsmoked. They smoke just fine. They were Ropps top selling pipes until they went out of business in 91. I prefer them to a cob. They weren't cheap pipes in their day.

Conversely, here's a stupid idea. Pick out all the stems from 15-20 coins and smoke an entire bowl of just the aged Newminster Superior Round Slices stems.See if it still tastes alright.

Im not sure why i never picked up any Round Slices. That needs to change. The Navy Flake improved a lot in just a few years... smoking that now.

Maybe ignorance is bliss on my part. The only experiences that I have had with stems, is twigs in the tobacco, I have never thought or noticed them finely sliced in coins, but regardless… the smoke is sweet and delivers the goods. Your mileage may vary!

It was a really fine smoke. I'd been meaning to get to a bowl of this since I sent Pete some in samples a while back. Smooth and mellow with all that age.

Had a bowl of 965 while taking a brake from picking up rocks and skidded some bigger ones an a piece of wood behind the fourwheeler. I was trying to build up what washed out around two 36 inch squash culvers under the driveway before things got worse. Now some Vintage Syrian in old sandblasted Comoys Billiard. Had to smoke a Peterson earlier I felt it was quite fitting while picking rocks out of the field felt kinda Irish today moved and relocated about 1000-2000 pounds of rock.

2015 SH Syrian Limited in my Johs bent Brandy. Johs pipes really fly under the radar, he produces great pipes at a great price, nice smokepole, John. Thanks. I own six Johs pipes and regularly smoke five of them. There’s nothing wrong with the sixth one. It’s a high grade Horn which, unfortunately, is too heavy to clench. With it having a bowl on the larger side, there are fewer times when I feel like holding a pipe for a long smoke. I first became aware of Johs and his pipes several years ago when P&T Magazine did a feature article about him. By an odd coincidence (😉) SP had about 120 of his pipes in stock. Great smoking hand made Danish pipes for $80 to $120. The main reason that I got hooked on Johs pipes is I really like the taste of the wood that he uses. I’m in total agreement with Fred Hanna that the briar used has a big influence on the taste of the pipe. I will give the caveat that if you get a Johs pipes you need to be prepared to accept some occasional bit of asymmetry in his stummel shaping. Nothing major, but when you look closely you can usually find some. Johs shapes with only a sanding wheel and doesn’t use a lathe.

Having my first taste of C&D Wintertime Reserve "Snow Day" in a Dr. Grabow Royal Duke bent Dublin. The tobacco came free with a Peterson that I got earlier in the month. Red Virginia with a bit of honey, pressed to a crumble cake.

Two bowls of MacBarens Vanilla Flake followed by a bowl of Stonehaven in a Rattray's bent apple. A wee dram of malt at my side. Yes, I smoked Stonehaven in the same pipe I smoked an aro in. No noticeable ghosting

2006 haddos delight in a claw meer. Opened with a nice satisfying whoosh sound as I barely cracked the seal. Sounded like a firework going off lol. Immediately I was hit with the scent of raisins (from the perique I assume and that wonderful funk of a fine aged virginia. Yeah like Silver said I earned this. Great smoke to cap off my birthday.

Good merry Christmas Eve to those who celebrate. C&D Cube Cut in a Legend starts my day. It's supposed to push 70°F here tomorrow. Weird. Didn't Bing sing about a Warm Christmas?
