Sitting in my shed with a bowl of Salty dog watching the rain come down. Cold and wet isn't what I prefer, but we do need the rain here so I don't mind

Rummaging through the garage looking for a specific box -- which is like looking for a needle in a needle stack -- whilst smoking some Amphora Virginia in a MM something-or-other. This blend is also courtesy of peteguy.

It's darker and browner than that. "Walnut," the stamping says.

Orlik golden Sliced, 2015 in a Longchamps leather covered briar. Jealous of that aged OGS. Mine'll get there someday. Hope I'm around to smoke it. What's the purpose of a leather wrap on a pipe? I've never actually known. Is it a layer of comfort between fingers and bowl, or something?

Some say that it is a convenient way to cover up inferior briar. I am not so sure, I think it was just a trendy thing to do at the time....but I doubt that perfectly straight grained briars got the leather treatment. I am not brave enough to trim the leather off. thebriarpatchforum.com/thread/4272/grandpa-used-smoke-pipeShoot me a Pm with your address, I think that I can ship you some Orlik with age on it.

I read an article where they pealed the leather off 3 of those pipes and the briar under them was fine. 2 were without flaws.

Great afternoon and evening with family. Smoked a bit, ate a bit, laughed a lot. Winding down with some Haunted Bookshop in the Friday cob. Looking forward to more of the same. Hope you all have a great Christmas.
