Had to give my old Falcon a thorough cleaning before I have my first go at Erik Stokkebye's Evening Flake tonight. Bowl was heavily caked up and the delicate aluminum innertube likes to build up slurry funk gunk right at bowl connection. Quickly cleaned, but this is the first time I'd ever taken the innertube and stem out. Usually just run some cleaners through and clean out the humidome.
There we are. Need a new Falcon body or two and some new bowls. Need to clean up my Grabow Viking, too. This bowl alone has probably seen a couple thousand smokes. I notice nobody here smokes Falcons, but they are a great system pipe and they especially smoke cool outdoors in the winter.

No Falcon here (yet), but I've got a Grabow Viking. You need one. The Viking is pretty decent but the Falcon has it beat. Plus, the Falcon was engineered and designed right here in my home town of Fort Wayne, Indiana by Kenley Bugg in 1936 and I like the history. In the late 30's for a short while, the Falcon was produced right here in town before moving to a Chicago factory I believe nearby Linkman/Grabow before sometime in the 50s (?) moving to England. Most folks tend to think of them as British pipes due to how long they've been manufactured there. I damn near had a Fort Wayne, IN made and stamped Falcon directly from Tim West. I didn't have enough cash on me that day, and when I came back to get it someone had snagged it. Still disappointed about that massive mistake. It was directly from Tim West and it still had the hard clear plastic case and two new bowls with it.

I had a Falcon, but I already had a half dozen Vikings and I really didn't like the Falcon at all. I didn't think the tube was supposed to be removable on the Falcon. The bit is easily removed on the Viking.

It's all intended to be "readily disassembled and readily cleaned with minimal effort" as per the patent filing. It was the first metal pipe, and the Viking was a clone of the Falcon. The Viking ended up having to cease and desist the making of their first shameless 1:1 copy of the Falcon and make the metal one solid piece, as the first Viking's looked just the same as the Falcon. I like my Viking, but it's tarnished and cheap white metal whereas at least the Falcon is lighter and only made of pure aluminum.

All mine are new old stock and shiney.

Mine was my grandfather's and it's worn at the humidome nib and copper color from underneath the plating. Much heavier, not as clean tasting but I have a couple different bowls for it. I'll clean it up soon and take a picture or two of it.

Still puffing on the P.S.Burley in this huge freehand. I have a very old Falcon, a Grabow Viking, a Medico Ventilator, and a 1955 Kaywoodie Filter Plus...I like the Viking best of all, but I've seen some newer Falcons I wouldn't mind owning.

I guess I'd forgotten that Kirsten also started making his metal pipes in the same year of 1936 and he was also an engineer. I'd love to get some of the metal Kirsten pipes and some of them go for quite a price these days in good condition. I think I'll finally also look into some of Ken Tsuge's metal offerings. Still want a Grabow CDL which were a limited run for test markets but highly acclaimed.

Bald Headed Teacher in the MM Emerald. Interesting, I can really taste the topping in this blend now - I'm not really sure what has changed. Still a nice blend, but losing ground to some others....

The only other metal pipe I'd be interested is the Falcon. Since they're still being made, larger bowls are available for them.

You should have seen it before I cleaned it up. I hear ya...they lead a rough and tumble life because the medal bodies can take it. Mine must have spent it's first life in someone's toolbox. I think they come with an innertube of some sort ,but mine didn't have one does yours?
