Years ago a north GA friend gave me a Mason jar of local stuff. Peach. 180-proof. Gee-zoo. I still have about two fingers of it. No peach flavor at all. Just a strong whiff of Armageddon. Brimstone-y Armageddon, or ambrosia-esque Armageddon? Your answer might indicate a problem you'd like to address.

Pure Brimstone. With an aftertaste of Evil & Damnation. So, not recommended? 😜🤠 It didn’t find much affection in me. But others might enjoy it. Kinda niche thing I imagine.

Johnnie Walker blue is pretty smooth. My father in law got me a bottle as a housewarming present. It is pretty good. The Princess got me a bottle of The Sassenach blended Scotch. This is, without a doubt, the smoothest whisky I've ever had in my life. My regular go-to is Bulleit, both the bourbon and their rye. I give them both hearty recommendations. An excellent drink, especially for the price.

Grandpa drank George Dickel! I drank a fair bit of G. Dickel in the black label in my day. It's great with Coke , but you real drinker wont care much about that ....drink what you like/ like what you drink.

Hunter friend brought a bottle of expensive Japanese whisky. “Implied” Scotch. It’s clear! A big turn-off. While I can honestly say it was OK and not repulsive, it’s not something I would buy for myself.

It hurts that Bushmills isn't on the list, Urb. Correct that please. That is an egregious omission. I've been told Bushmill's is the oldest distillery in Ireland.

My son recommends Eagle Rare, Buffalo Trace, Jefferson's Reserve Old Rum cask, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof. Elijah Craig is my best friend's favorite. It's good, but I'm too cheap to buy it for myself. I get him a bottle and drink it when I'm over at his place. We both refer to another on this list as "Buffalo Piss," and we're not joking when we do. Shackleton Scotch Whisky is also very good stuff (even if it is blended), and 10% of the profits to to the Antarctic Heritage Trust. It's been reverse-engineered to replicate the Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky that accompanied Sir Ernest and his intrepid men on their expedition.

I'm not much for the sweet stuff, so tend to prefer scotch whiskey. My regulars are Bunnahabhain (Islay), Bowmore (Islay), and for a lighter note Suntori Toki (Japan).
If I need a bourbon for mixing cocktails, I tend to go with Woodford Reserve and Knob Creek Rye.

An Irish friend likes to say, “We gave ‘em kilts, the language, and the pipes. They still haven’t got the joke!”

You owe it to yourself to try WRITERS’ TEARS. Irish. Not that Bourbon swill. Pausing only to take strong exception to the "Bourbon swill" reference , I'll say I never heard of this, it sounds intriguing, and who would know better than the Irish about writers' tears?

I think I'm going to restock Redbreast, and add a bottle of Green Spot and a bottle of Eagle Rare, and leave it there for now.
So many options out there. It's paralyzing.
