jack9211, I think pipe tobacco, like a cigar, pairs well with something (and not so much with others). I just try to keep track of what goes with which ;-)

The tater speaks the truth. I generally just drink water when I'm smoking, but some blends definitely do blend well with certain beverages. KBV Burley Morning always comes to mind. It's intended to be paired with coffee.

I'm currently enjoying some Escudo with a Manhattan, which is a pairing that works quite well for me ;-)

I don’t drink alcohol anymore but can agree when I did their was something magical about finding a good pairing. My go to now is coffee and a strong burley when I’m in the mood for that.

Rum does seem to go especially well with tobacco. And Rum flavored tobaccos are a favorite of mine.
And I like a rum soaked piece of oak barrel stave added to the jar of some of my tobaccos.

Where do you get pieces of stave, Monty? Small pieces of stave come in some tobacco tins like Bourbon Barrel Aged Plum Pudding. I keep one soaking in bourbon and one in rum. Drop them into a jar now and then when certain tobaccos start to get too dry.

I don’t drink anymore, but I do tend to like rum infused tobacco. Not rum FLAVORED, but infused with actual rum. GH Rum Twist and Rum Flake are all time favorites of mine. Aged Blockade Runner or Black Frigate are also tops.

"The old black rum has a hold on me Like a dog wrapped round my leg"
I plugged that jug, but I, too, like a rummy baccy. GH Rum Flake is a favorite. The various navy flakes get a lot of bowl time here, as well, but I don’t perceive those as rum. I've added rum to both Triple Play and Three Friars to good, but subtle, effect.
If you can't drink it, smoke it.

I do know Dr. Pepper pairs perfectly with any cigar. Rum with pipe tobacco? Meh…I’ll stick with scotch thanks.

I pretty much drink coffee or water when I’m smoking a pipe. I find most alcohol takes away from the flavors of the tobacco, and as a result I am not a fan of alcohol infused blends. I’ve got some Wilke 515 that just about chokes you with the heavy rum flavor. For some reason though coffee and burly really work well together for me. I haven’t drank soft drinks in years, but Moxie was a favorite when I did. Sounds interesting.

I miss Moxie. I brought 24 cans from New England when I moved and they are long gone.
I put gentian bitters in other things, searching for a fix. Alas, it's never Moxie.

Yeah, I lost Moxie and gained Cheerwine. I'd drink more of it, if it didn't have caffeine. Moxie was worth the jangles.

I also rarely drink any alcohol at all anymore but a rare few shots per year. When I did drink and bar hop as a pipe smoker in my early 20s I liked to pair good bourbon with most any blend. These days it's always water, sugar-free high caffeine energy drinks or coffee. Always coffee every morning with burley for me, usually just water at night. Another thing to keep in mind is that smoking while washing the mouth with alcohol at least triples the carcinogenicity. We only live once and all, but it was a main factor in why I stopped pipesmoking while drinking. That, and the multicellular death from alcohol consumption. I know, I know.. I can be a blast at parties!

What tobacco would complement absinthe? Not a regular consumer but do participate in a tradition of toasting the new year with same.

I didn't even know Moxie was made anymore. Thought it went the way of the dodo decades ago.
