It's pretty dry, an somewhat course ground. Ive added a drop or two or water and a pinch of nasal salts as I saw in an very old Gawith and Hoggart video on the subject that they add salt. Still experimenting, I need a real grinder, this stone and rubbing with my fingers is for the birds!! Seems pretty primal, hahaha. I used a stone mortar and pestel for my first few rounds. Now I use an electric coffee grinder. Sodium Carbonate (cooked baking soda), or Calcium Hydroxide (pickling lime) will help "release" some nicotine as well. My last batch was Anise flavored, made with Cameroon and Rustica. I prefer a moist/medium grind. It's just easier. Darin is the man on this subject |

Sounds like he's on the right path by adding the moisture and salt. The amount of salt is personal choice and I've gone from none up to about 10% of the flour weight. Adding an alkalizing agent will certainly kick up the nicotine. I like to "cook" mine in a pressure cooker with the snuff in jars after adding that. Lastly, starting with some unadulterated dark cured tobacco seems to yield the best results.

They're asking $18.99 for the small Bruton now locally!?! Probably still economical for someone trying to quit smoking ready-mades. I don't think I've ever paid more than $5-6 here. I did see some unfamiliar twists recently, though. I'm broke and just needed a pack of pipe cleaners, so there was no temptation.
Currently trying to stanch the brisk morning air rhinorrhea with F&T HDT. I am nothing if not a delicate flower.

One day about 25 years ago, I lost a job, a car, and a driver's license all before 10am, thanks to ouzo*. Liquor store had opened at 8am and I must have been on a speedrun. By the time I got out of jail they had impounded my wrecked car and confiscated the empty ouzo and the full handle of black rum within.
*I take full responsibility; the Greek spirits were innocent in the affair. Drinking is very glamorous, to be sure.

Sambuca... IVe wanted to try that tobacco for a while but 8 oz is a lot to "try."
Ouzo... thinking of it makes my mouth water. Not in a good way, but in that way right before you projectile vomit black licorice flavored spaghetti noodles and then have to pull them out of your nose.
Might as well pull out my homemade Anise snuff for this walk down memory lane. 🤣

I had to cut her off at 5 shots as she could barely walk before she had a drink. She sure had fun though. It was her last party and she passed away after her 96th. |
