I needed something to do after my wife passed away and for whatever reason I settled on photography. I tend to like older things, so I have purchased numerous film cameras and having fun with those. I also have a new digital. At least it should get me out of the house once in awhile.

Nice! Film is fun (and definitely soaks up more time). You doing color or B&W? Landscapes? People? Still lifes? Street? I would imagine there are lots of opportunities for all of those where you are. Spill, man.

I love film photography. Black and White was as far as I got except for motion work. Still have a Cannon Viewfinder 35mm, the poorer man's Leica.
Decades ago, a friend had a Hasselblad 2 1/4. I will never forget how the image on the ground glass screen was sharper than my eyes could see on their own!
Developing and enlarging prints is a rewarding pass time. I guess all that stuff is still available?

I was going to ask the same. How does one purchase film (Amazon?) and get then get it developed?

Film is still a thing. Made kind of a comeback, like vinyl records. You generally have to mail it off to get it developed -- unless you do it yourself, which is not terribly hard for B&W if you have a space you can use as a darkroom and some cash for the chemicals, spools, etc. If you then want to make prints, like John was talking about, you also need paper, more chemicals, an enlarger, lens, etc.
No idea what prices are like for that stuff, now. They weren't too bad 20 years ago, but that was when tons of people were selling off their stuff to go digital.

I have a state-of-the-art (as of 1995 or so) photolab in storage ion my shop building. When I finally went total digital I packed it all up. Truth was, I was pretty burned out on traditional photo work— “lab fatigue.” Digital saved me. My beloved Nikons, Leicas, and 4x5s reproach me every time I fondle them. But time, energy, and technology move on.

If my wife was too leave me then I can't imagine being interested in anything.

Kevin, if you find you really get into photography and want to try old-school medium format, you're welcome to the C330. A retiring wedding photographer gave it to me many years ago because he knew I was interested in photography, so I would be happy to pass it on again.

If I ever get back into it, I want a rangefinder. Can't afford a Leica, but there are a lot of reconditioned Yashicamat 35s available.

Those old model III's aren't very expensive. At least, they weren't when I bought that one. Few casual hobbyists would want to use them, I imagine. Just loading the film is a bit tricky.

Good deal! Photography is good for getting you out of the house, occupying your mind, and getting some satisfaction from your creativity. Best of luck!

That C330, with slow B&W film, is capable of incredibly sharp negatives. 24x24” prints are impressive from it.

I had/have the parallax tripod converter for mine. A great help for a TLR.

Spill, man. I like film also. So far, most of the pics I've taken were when. Pam and I went to Wyoming during the summer. I like a little of everything. Still figuring things out. I send my film out to a place called "The Darkroom" to be developed and scanned. Haven't started developing yet.

I signed up to a wordpress site which I don't use as a website, but I upload my photos to it and Wordpress gives me a nice URL to copy and paste in the forum. Works a treat.

I had a camera from them before my first marriage. Edit: Nope, established in 1973. I guess I was one of their first customers though.
