The real pleasures of photography, especially for a beginner are in the “wholeness” of it. By that I mean the ability to control every aspect of the craft. Spooling film into cassettes from a 100’ spool; developing the film; making proofs; making final prints. Thanks to digital none of this “old fashioned” tech is expensive, not even used enlargers. The power of it is to be fully engrossed, to take the self actualizing steps of Strand, Weston, Adams, and all the others. I wish you a great voyage!

Speaking of Weston, my 1940s Leica has the old Weston film speed scale on it. Always made me smile when I looked down at it.

I had a Weston Master III that I used on the process camera and with the Speed Graphic. It's actually interesting how much better they can meter than the average built in meter.

My Gossen LunaPro and Minolta Spot Meter (with 18% gray card) never let me down. None of my working cameras had on-board meters. Now I’m a lazy slug like everybody else and let the digi-cam internals do all the dirty work. Mostly b/c they are so darn good.

I have a few images I can post. First, I'll start off with my wife's and my marker at the VA cemetery.

When we sent to Wyoming this last summer, Pam, my sister Carrie, and her Mom Wanda, they found an old vehicle in the wilderness.

Here is a picture of some building in Romania. From the film that was in the camera when I received it. Ha! It's like found footage, I guess. Kind of a diorama effect going on in it. I think I see some promise in these, Kevin. No kidding. The first one of your cat and a couple of those landscape shots, in particular, struck me. That buffalo coat looks seriously warm. And heavy. And possibly smelly. Makes me think of Jeremiah Johnson.

I'll upload some more later on.
