I need to to know what a goathead is, I want to shame a bunch of punks at work by calling them a goathead, never mind, I will add my own description. She used it in a few contexts, with no clear definition other than that it wasn't a compliment. If you helped her do something, for instance, when the two of you were done she'd say, "That went pretty well, even though one of us is a goathead."

Just a thought… Vegas is a pretty inexpensive destination from most locales, cheap rooms, smoker friendly, and plenty to do. We should have a briarptch meetup for those so inclined. EVERYONE, should go the the May Chicagoland pipe show. Problem solved and the biggest show with 200+ vendors.

It has all that and you smoke in a tent because you are looked upon as a nuisance. Go to Chicagoland for the show to buy pipes and rub elbows with the industry. head to Vegas to hang with the cool kids.

I might go to Chicago, I guess. I'm really not much for crowds, even at the best of times. Or travel, either. But I'm curious about it, and curiosity always seems to overwhelm other things with me.

Texarkana is a lot closer to the center of the country. Yeah… the bug lights when the June bugs hit it is great entertainment. And the beer fart contest can be quite fun!

Meeting up with you guys at our own convention! I visualized something like the above, knowing as many of you as I do.
I favor Texas over Las Vegas. Values, you know, plus Barbeque! Thinking Hill Country. Maybe Oklahoma, just because no one ever goes there and they could use the help. Texarkana would be interesting. Never been there. Chicago is a long ways off and an expensive place, although readily accessible via Amtrak.

Prices start at 9K per day, I vote that John heads this up!

Goatheads are nasty weeds. Grow low to the ground. They have pronged seeds that can get stuck to anything.

I'm always checking my shoes in the summer to make sure I'm not dragging any seeds indoors.

I suspect any forum has the potential for rousing our less than better angels. (Call me a Neo Luddite, I won't deny it.)
I think personalities of the Briar Patch have come together in a good way that evades most forums.

There are certainly prickly nodes of conversation that have the potential of creating division and dissension. But Sparks and Legend Lover have done a masterful job of guiding us around these fatal reefs, with a light and dexterous hand. I’m reminded of Rodney King’s plea— “Why can’t we all just get along?” There’s no one here I wouldn’t be happy to treat to a big frothy mug of good craft beer.

Isn’t the center of the US somewhere in Kansas? It’s certainly not Texarkana. Now there is a good question! There was a time when I thought Kansas was the philosophical and moral center of the nation. That was when Bob Dole was in the Senate. Kansas has changed some, so now Iowa seems more the center. You were, of course, referring to the geographical center of the nation and I dispute that such exists. We are too distorted by time, space, variances in gravity, differences in Proof; e.g. 80, 90, 101, to ever find a real center to this land of ours. (More humor, sorry).
