Hmm, doesn't quite seem to capture the spirit of it, no. That looks more like a grammatically correct demon whose horns appear to be held on with screws. I thought it was a hybrid of darktater 's and chasingembers avatars.

Goatheads are nasty weeds. Grow low to the ground. They have pronged seeds that can get stuck to anything. I'll be darned. Dunno if those grow around where I'm from. I never heard of them, so I don't know if Grandma had, either. Could be what she meant, though. We have those all over Texas. I can't count the times I've had to pick them out of my socks. And always look closely before you let your Yorkie out by the roadside to do her business. It can take hours to remove all the burs. I never knew they were called goatheads before. We just call them sticker burs.

Isn’t the center of the US somewhere in Kansas? It’s certainly not Texarkana. Texarkana is much closer to my house. How about Shreveport? 😁🤠

I thought it was just that peculiar odor. Ahem, room note. I meant that wet dog, wooly smell, combined with Hoppe's #9, diesel and latakia. That could be some "room note"!

They're pretty distinctive -- fuzzy stems, unusual color and all -- so I'm fairly sure I'd remember. I doubt Grandma was familiar with them, either, since she grew up in basically the same place I did. We had cockle burrs, various thorns and stickers, and those little buggers we used to call "snot balls." Those weren't sharp at all, but they stuck to socks, shoelaces, pants, and darn near anything else by the dozens. You wouldn't know you'd walked through them till you got home. Your shoelaces would often be stuck completely together in a tangled ball. Took forever to get them all picked out/off.

We have Mexican sandburs here. Nasty little caltrops that get into the dogs’ pads. They’ll stand still, holding their foot up ‘til I come and pull them out. I hates ‘em.

A few months ago while hiking through some thick brush I accidentally walked right through some dry, completely finished burdock plants. I had a good 80 of the seed pods stuck to the side of my head, down the back of my head, and 100 more all over my sweatshirt. The plant has a good sweet root and several medicinal properties. I've been pulling them up and culling them around here but I think this year I may seek out a few at the young rosette stage and pull up the taproots to eat, maybe pickle some.

I have been a member of other pipe forums, but I do believe this is a place I can call home. This forum is so laid back without all the drama and henpecking in other forums, it also includes several members from other forums that I've known for many years, most of the time I don't comment very much, and just read everyone's post's and enjoy the experiences that everyone shares here. Thank You to Everyone for making this place an enjoyable place to be, and thanks to Sparks for making this all happen. Considering where this thread went, we're all a bunch of goatheads.

I remember as a kid in Kansas, the stickers that grew on a stalk, (can't remember if it was goatheads), break the stalk off and with a snapped wrist with a delivery on the back of your buddy....instant, arched ribs from the pain.
The problem with that was payback time.

I've not had head cheese since I was a little kid. Grandpa used to get it from time to time to remind him of old Norwegian traditions along with lefse & gjeitost. Lots and lots of cheese.
