Kind of cool… I had a travel order for a patient at the Venetian hotel and casino in Las Vegas this morning. As I made the delivery a suit approached me… “Hello I am____ Senior VP” at the company I work for, “breakfast is on me”.
Had one heck of a breakfast and they treated him like he is a whale… better setup than what I am accustomed to.
Found out he likes cigars, and is not adverse to smoking a pipe. His dad smoked one.
I told him next time he is in town, he needs to let me know beforehand, dinner and smoking works better. He agreed. (And his company credit card is bigger)😉
Good to be home though.

My takeaway is that your mileage may vary.!😉
All of the responses have merit, and the pipes we receive can sometimes be a mixed bag, some always get great smokes… some not so much.
But then beauty can be in the eye of the beholder… Lordguyrox swore off Peterson’s for his new found love for Dunhill. The pipes that I received from him are exquisite in looks and function.

It really is a great show. There is so much to do, I work in Vegas bi-weekly and there is so many things to do. I saw the Scorpions with the wife, two shows back … pretty darn awesome. I am staying offsite for the show, because I am in Vegas every other week and have free accommodations and upgrades. Staying at the Palace is cool though, room hopping and everything is in one place.
Discounted rooms will sell out!

Ate at Lou’s Dinner in Vegas for lunch…. The best patty melt on marbled rye I have ever tasted… the beef patty was remarkable. Really scrumptious.
Dinner at Those Guys pies in Vegas/ Summerlin/ Lakes…great execution on NY style pizza.
The cost of eating out continues to astound me, when I have to pay the freight it will be a lot of home cooked meals.

I understand that the original post was made in regards to current production, but so many of the British pipe makers of years gone by fit the bill in excellent smoking pipes, even many of the seconds I have are great smokers.

I've got a Mark Twain from 1986 and a Killarney from around 2012. Neither one can smoke without gurgling. With so many good pipes out there, I just moved on. That sucks, experiencing that I totally get moving on. I have some old estates that smoke fine and I really like, prior to Smokingpipes acquiring the company, I heard of too many complaints by many people that I respect to not know that they had some serious issues. A lot of complaints on inferior drilling and stain in the bowls. Sp taking over did not fix it overnight, but I have been told that quality control is much better.

A nice 5 minute walk from the hotel, far removed from the strip and all that nonsense… where the locals eat. The Calamari is very good, and the scallop dish is phenomenal! The peas, mini corn, and water chestnuts are the tastiest ever, and the sauce is heavenly…. The scallops are quite good also. imgur.com/a/fnRWh8rA nice meal, while I dined, a (probably) 50 Y/O giy saunters in to pick up his meal to go. He has his fake diamond studded belt strategically harnessed below his purple assed underwear., prominent cotton moons. Whatever…🙄 Then he comes back in complaining about the order and rags on the humble Asian server, until she relents and does a reverse charge. His purple arse saunters out, food in hand, gets into the car and knuckle bumps his brood mare. I would have loved to pull his underwear back and pour a bowl of boiling oatmeal in it, with a bum rush to the door.

I ran the San Joaquin valley (Bakersfieldto Los Banos) with a guy that had aircraft lights on his Peterbilt…. They were aimed low and really lifted the zero-viz fog, I ran the backdoor, and we plowed through whatever came our way.
He ran them muted, found the sweet spot, and we had a lot of followers.

I spent about 4 hours working in the shop on things I actually wanted to work on yesterday and a couple more today. I don't think that that kind of thing counts against your time on the planet. Weeding, mowing, spraying, painting, plumbing etc counts double. Even if you recline in the shop, smoking your pipe.. or maybe not. It counts… enjoy your retirement, you deserve it.

There are actually special motor home GPS map programs with clearances and weight limits. Of course you have to actually use them. And if you don't know the clearance, don't do it. The smart one in this is the guy that repairs boxes and A/C units on RV's 150 feet past the overpass.

You'd think! 😁 She has really mellowed since she got past 65. Still likely to yank my pants off at any moment without warning. There’s a visual I didn’t need. Hopefully not happening with garden pictures of frolicking Ron tiptoeing through the tulips.

There are some good products on the market that polish out the oxidation, or one can put in auxiliary lights, hopefully properly aimed.

Ordered a couple tins of Steamworks from Country Squire. Solely to get free shipping, I added this estate Caminetto: The listing didn't identify the line or a model name or shape number. This, however, gentlemen, is a bent apple. I have not looked at any pipes for a long time, but it looks like CS has done their homework on pipe presentation. Nice looking Caminetto!

Beef Stew simmering on stove. No taters so I added diced zucchini. Carrots, celery, parsley, Swiss Chard Stalks, onions, garlic, beef stock, red wine, left over meatloaf from last week, nice and ripe! Cajun seasoning of my own mix per the recipe of a Cajun friend from long ago. It will be a wet one so I will enjoy it on a bed of Parish Rice and French Lentils. Sounds pretty tasty! Doing stuffed bell peppers tonight, from a cookbook recipe, “Americas Test Kitchen” that has never disappointed. Raking the spurs to Vegas tomorrow.😏

Got the yearly supplemental check from the Teamsters.
If the fund is exceedingly well funded, the overage requires a disbursement to the retirees. This only applies to the 11 western states, the central and Eastern states are sucking the hind teat, thanks to greasy politicians and their gangster buddies. So far we have been on a yearly roll.
40 premium cigars for me and my brother the retired Marine at the family reunion…. Buying locally at Hiland’s cigars.

I was about to mow when the homeowners insurance guy came by. The insurance is insane. The first quote came in at $5k. After some changes I got it cut in half. The current policy would have rebuilt the house brand new. I only need enough to put a mobile home on a small lot. If we had to pay the full price, I probably would have raided the 401k and paid it off. Windstorm damage deductible was $10k,everything else $5k. Inflation is insidious. I have been hearing more and more of that. Brian Levine os Pipesmagazine Radio was singing the blues. He moved to Florida, and the lack of income tax was more than absorbed by the cost of house insurance… by quite a bit. Victor Davis Hanson recently spoke of his cabin up in California…. It has gone crazy..

Welcome to the patch from Arizona. I have a few uncles that grew up on the Arkansas river in Colorado. All of them fished with worms or when there are active grasshoppers. They would knockem dead and in no time their creel would be full. Meanwhile, the guys in the Fancy LL Bean rigs would be toiling away, and coming up empty. There were plenty of great fly fishermen, but they seemed to skip the fancy clothes. lestrout is an avid fly fisherman ( the successful kind), and as was Bambooshank (RIP).

Unmarked back road bridges, weight and clearance should always be marked.
Surprised how many hotels do not have clearance signs over the covered entrance. An easy 35 years ago I awoke at my hotel in Carpinteria Ca. To what sounded like thunder and felt like an earthquake. A family had just purchased a brand new camper and dad gave them a permanent moon and rain roof. They let the air out of the tires to get it unstuck and destroyed all 4 tires.
In that instance, I do not think a clearance sign would have mattered.

I see big rigs crossing that bridge once and awhile. I would not recommend it. Do you recall what the limits are? Big heap trouble for exceeding limits if caught.

And a pretty scenic bridge it is!
We had a couple drivers routinely crossing some bridges in New Mexico with trucks that have a 52,000 GVWR on some super shady bridges with no restriction warning signs, some were early 1900’s with no sign of maintenance.
When I covered them runs, that all came to a halt, the patients had to come and meet me. At first they were not happy about it “ but the other guy drove on it”. I explained that if they lost their bridge, they would be screwed…
All commercial driving is not the same, some 40ish y/o class B drivers know less than this class A driver did in his 20’s.
