Finally managed to get my truck into the mechanic-wizard. Just as I suspected, water pump failure. The part isn’t too expensive but getting to it and getting the new in is a nasty processs. About $1600 when the bill comes due. Oh well, at least I know what the problem is and a fix is on the way. The way the engine is packed into the bay with all the peripheral devices attached, any job is difficult. Looking, the other day, at my neighbor's 1972 Chevrolet truck with a 250 cubic inch straight 6, there is so much room under the hood there could be a tool locker in there. The good old days. When you could work on your own truck. Gone forever.

There is enough room in my ram for a second V6.

Being retired is great. My wife was watching the movie "Battleship" and I caught the end. I was wondering what the muzzle energy of a single gun on the Missouri was. The calculator could handle this on. 254,990,206 ft/lbs.

Last evening, just at dusk, we had a typical prairie “ambush” storm blow through. They resemble the Mongol horde pretty closely. First the sky (usually northwest) darkens. Then the leaves start to rustle, getting progressively more agitated. Branches begin to whip back and forth and the sound turns up, like a rapidly running river. The final act is when the main force arrives, violent and disruptive. Usually with some rain that starts to hit and sound like hail. Last night’s was blowing completely horizontal. Limbs come down, leaves pelt the windows. In five minutes it’s over. The sky lightens and if it’s early enough the sun comes out. It can be exciting, and scary, and reminds you what an insect you are.

Back from hols at 2am. Got another ear infection, but I'm in one piece. Glad to be home, but I wish I was still away. Ronv69, tell Karen that I apologise that I'm back. I'll have the other guy back soon.

Try white vinegar in the ear. When I was ten I was prone to chronic summer ear infections. My doc tried an experiment with the vinegar and it worked. He wrote it up for a medical journal.

Warm days in NorCal. Had an unusual light rainfall the other day. Kind of nice and rare to have a summer rain here.

Low 80s, sunny and breezy in SE Michigan.no rain in the forecast until Monday. That could, and probably will, change as temps and humidity creep upward.

Broke my Tibia plateau earlier this week in Pahrump Nevada on the job, so I will be off work for awhile... Slipped off the liftgate 4 feet up, and my right leg was locked, it took the full force like a worn shock absorber. It hurt, but thought I might be able to work it out and finished the last six stops. By the time I made it to the clinic in Vegas, I could barely drag myself through the doors. The knucklehead physician assistant there said nothing was broke, just a sprain as he looked at the x-ray, never looked at my leg. Gave me a bent knee brace and crutches, drug myself into the cab of the truck and drove it a block to the hotel. No meds, but I iced it for the night and rode shotgun back with another driver...every bump in the 5 hour ride was torture. Halfway back, I got a call from an actual doctor from that clinic, he was in a panic...."We were wrong, something is broken, you need to see a specialist ASAP!" The wife met me at work, back off to the local clinic that is a well ran one by the same organization. An old salty PA told me, I don't know how anyone could miss this fracture, it is plain as day! Straight brace, and yesterday saw a specialist. CT scan on Monday, consult next Thursday...he said initially he doesn't think surgery is necessary, but cannot say definitively until he sees the CT scan. I will be off work for some time, but at least I pull 100% of regular pay.

I got paid full salary for my last 2 breaks, but at least I was on a motorcycle. It's cheaper for the company to pay your salary than for them to deal with the workman's compensation insurance. I thought that my employer was doing me a huge favor until I figured that out. Wishing you a fast and complete surgery free recovery.

Late yesterday I walked around to the south side of the house for the first time in a week and sunk up to my ankle in the mud. Had a leak somewhere. Every plumber in the county was booked solid but I finally got my regular plumber to send his helpers. Main water line broke. Couldn't sleep last night worrying about it but it's fixed now. I mowed the grass over the field lines. Nap time.

No oil change, oil pan leaking, had to drop oil pan and replace gasket, with new oil and filter 451$, new tires on today, had Nitto grapplers on, replaced with same’ Coopers were over 300$ a tire, figured Nittos lasted 6 yrs, quiet tire, so Nitto it was. Tailgate handle was broke, asked owner Jim how much to fix after I had the handle , he raised a doughnut I brought them, said this is payment, gave the mechanic who installed it 10$, good to go now!

It’s a work comp claim, I pay a supplemental of $7 every two weeks to get to 100%. Too good not to pass up, and as long as I am employed, life insurance with a big payout for the wife and me is dirt cheap. I had term life insurance several years ago through Transamerica… $70 per quarter at the end of the 20 year term, it was $700 a quarter! That was a non starter.
