99 here in NE Texas today, supposed to be 100 tomorrow for the first day of fall. wow. I still can't take in those temperatures. We're starting to feel the chill already...although the past couple of days have been quite mild.[8br] It was nice here in the 80s the past couple of weeks. After Friday we are going to cool back down. (to the 80s)

I have identified those mystery globules as “rain.” Had to look it up. We have had 5.6” of it since the beginning of the year. More of it falling today, but it is apparently just passing through. Temps in the low to mid 40s all day. Seasonal transition is surely here.

“ Took a trip over to Springfield, Illinois for lunch today.”
It looks like a nice place to hang out, Monty. It looks like a place where there would probably be a monthly classic car meet.

What's wrong with people? The government issued a recall for Teslas because people can get their fingers pinched by the power windows! Outside of Los Angeles I can't imagine this being a thing. Who doesn't know this.

That whole being less busy at work once I got past August thing hasn’t really worked out yet. Playing catch-up on a lot of stuff I didn’t have time for during the summer months. Once October gets here, we’ll be in Q4 rush to get things done mode.
On the other hand, I have a job and it pays the bills, even in an inflationary period.

Intense rain this PM. Lot of water in the irrigation ditches. Opened gates to distribute the load and keep a couple of houses from flooding. All is well. Except the wipers are not working on my Land Cruiser. So, slow driving. Peak flow might not be for a while yet. Fingers crossed.

Tomorrow morning I leave for the weekend. I'm going to a campout / Veteran retreat up at Mormon Lake. We will be in cabins, so not true camping by many folks' standards, but the event is to give vets an escape. We will have activities and fellowship. I can't wait! Bringing my Meer and one other pipe so I have pipes to smoke. I'm bringing Captain Black because it's new to me and I liked my first bowl. I'm bringing Sutliff Match Nightcap, Salty Dog, and the plug I made of Virginia mixes. And another plug I can't recall what it was and it's already packed.
I hope to have a GREAT time!!

It sounds like a great time, and an opportunity for fellow vets to talk around stuff that they are reticent to talk around with others. I hope that the retreat allows everyone involved to have a great time of relaxation and charging their batteries. Thank you for your service, Terry. I fly out to Wichita tomorrow, hanging out with my brother that served in Vietnam. He lost a daughter in a suicide about a year ago or so, he wants to delve into the word. I foresee a lot of pipe smoking on my part.

Tell your brother I said thank you for serving when it was not popular to do so., and convey my heartfelt condolences on his daughter if the mood is right to do so.

swampgrizzly Thank you, I just did my part. I really hope the vets I will be with get what they need out of this. Many have issues far greater than mine, and its an honor to be with them.

So I'm guessing that anyone that did get their finger stuck was too embarrassed to report it.

My little brother learned the hard way about pinch points feeding cigarette butts into moms wringer washer.
Mom came down the stairs like Jackie Robinson to hit the crash bar as the wringers were doing burnouts on his arm.
I wonder if the statue of limitations prevents us from going after Westinghouse?😉

More effective than a spin cycle but they introduced wrinkles that required a hot iron to fix.

This citizen showed up this morning and proceeded to chow-down on the gunshack’s shrubbery. Mmm! Salad! I noted that she has already changed into her winter coat— grey instead of red. temporary photo upload

I got to the airport, struck up a conversation with a gal that is on crutches also. I told her it was a shame that the restaurant was packed, I wanted to get an iced tea. She tells me “ I sure wish I had some cash on me, my daughter and I are hungry, I guess we will have to wait until we get to Kansas”
I wanted to tell her, bust out your debit or credit card…
What was going on is by her mentioning cash, she was hoping for me to reflexively hand her some cash.
Subtle how these people operate.

I would adopt her if I could but my dog would not cooperate. BTW, I know what pests deer can be come when they are tame. LOL!

I make no effort to “tame” them. I respect their wildness, and encourage it. But I don’t get upset when they drop by for a nibble or two.

Not feeling too good about my community just now.
It seems that the seven day per week part time job I worked since April will go unpaid this year. There is no money for my wages. All went to machine contractors and other costs. We had more emergencies than usual this year and no reserve to cover them and so we went over budget. We are supposed to be self sustaining but too many members do not pay their fees. The Commission President said she will try to get something for me at the annual meeting next Spring. They will be lucky to collect an adequate sum for next year's budget. Collecting for me past due is laughable. The other commissioners are not bothered. Nor do the members give a poop. They got their water for their crops and that is all they are concerned about. Irrigation season is about over. Still plenty to do preparing for winter but I do not think it will be me doing it. If people flood, well, gee, I am so sorry! It will be a tough lean winter for me without the money I am owed but that is the way it is.
It is amazing to me how people have changed. This would have been unheard of years ago. The people we have now, well, let us just say I do not think much of them anymore.
Sorry for the rant. This has been hard to take.

Your “rant” is completely understood. Doesn’t the wage of the guy that makes it happen come FIRST? Rhetorical question as obviously not. Maybe try some crowd funding? I’m only partly joking.

Is there a NM Employment Commission? The Texas one won't let wages slide no matter who it is. At least have a chat with a lawyer. The state is ultimately responsible. I'm sorry this happened to you. This wouldn't even happen in Mississippi.
