I just went ahead and accepted the offer. ron - Typically I just work remotely or from an engineering office and barely step foot on a data center floor these days. With this position, I'll probably be doing a lot of configuring/re-configuring server racks and Cisco ASR 9000s.

Playing catch-up: that's nuts, toshtego . There has to be some kind of recourse. I'd start with whoever delivered the news that you wouldn't be getting paid, and chew my way up from there. Hope all's well, Walt! Duck and cover! Congrats on the new gig, Zach. Hope it works out well for you. Not much news, here. Getting our first taste of Fall weather. It won't last, but it's nice.

Just finished catching up after the weekend. Tosh, so sorry you are going thru that! You are better than I because I would cut bait and resign. When they asked me to give them the charts and maps I'd remind them that these things don't exist and tell them good luck!
Zach: Congrats on the new position. I hope you enjoy it.
As for me, my weekend campout was OUTSTANDING!!! Had several nice pipes. The only one I didn't care for was a blend by Klint Kinden called Vanilla VaPer Plug. I tasted no vanilla, and the plug appears to be whole leaf pressed together but I think I may be missing some as the thing is only a quarter inch thick. While there we got to go Kayaking, Horseback riding, and we were fed like kings and queens!! If you know a veteran that could use a getaway let me know and I will send the information for the retreat organizer so they can attend next year.

Terry, glad that you were able to get away and have a good time with your buddies!
“the plug appears to be whole leaf pressed together”
Maybe I am missing something, but whole leaf pressed together is a plug, loose tobacco pressed together is crumble cake.
There may be aromatic plugs out there, but off the top of my head I cannot think of any, was that an attempt by that blender to bring something new to the table?

Now see that's something I didn't know. The Salty Dog plug looks like it was shredded and compressed. obviously, it isn't, but I assumed... As for the blender and Aromatics, I've no clue I hadn't heard of him till I got the Tobacco I purchased from Habar. He has a YouTube channel and shows how he assembles full leaf blends in twist or plug form.

I Googled the name, and saw his YouTube channel, but the first link that came up was for Klint Kinden, Hazmat manager that deals in hazmat waste in Nome Alaska… wonder if it is the same guy. As a former Hazmat waste worker, I collected a lot of vanilla extract, it is considered a flammable product! I would veer away from petroleum plug.😉

I've worked remotely before. The company had remote work set up for over 10 years before I retired. I set it up. But I loved going to that job every day. But a lot of what I did couldn't be done remotely, but it enabled the others.

I am however happy to cut out much of the "BS jobs" portion of the corporate work, skip budgeting issues, and start right out with a full personal office, no cubicle! Not being siloed as an engineer, not work from a corp ticketing queue just for the sake of creating tickets for busy work, and no longer work with God damned JIRA!
I worked 100% remotely the entire pandemic. What at first I thought would be a dream somewhat became like being imprisoned in my own home. My bathroom breaks in my own home, in my own bathroom made it feel like it was the work bathroom. Weird things that end up happening you don't plan or expect. But the company and the work really matters.

I experienced the same thing when I was laid up at home. Still working, but I found it was harder to do everything and I felt trapped. Of course I had a great job. I could show up an hour late, take a 2 hour lunch and leave early if I wanted to, but I didn't abuse it. After 40 years of terrible bosses I deserved a good one at the end. Only thing better is retirement.

Bit of a doggy scare this morning. Eli apparently stole and ate a Hershey “Kiss.” At first I thought he ate two, but later found the second one. Dosed him with hydrogen peroxide (before I discovered the second Kiss) to get him to vomit, which he did. A single kiss for a 50-pound dog is probably not seriously concerning but I don’t like to take chances. Whenever a dog gets into something he shouldn’t it’s MY fault, not his— within reason anyway. I’ll be watching him carefully for symptoms for a while but I think he’s fine. Phew!

Hydrogen Peroxide works like Ipecac syrup for dogs?

Our puppy threw up a whole sock yesterday ... would've been happy with a single small chocolate. Lol My bulldog passed toddler socks, and almost ate a receiving blanket. That boy gave us gray hair, I thought for sure at some point it would result in a major surgery bill. Hopefully, your puppy is smarter and learns from it, ours never did. At the end of the trail for him the bill was realized but not for that.

Hydrogen Peroxide works like Ipecac syrup for dogs? Yes. Dosage is important. Not the first time I have used it. When Jack was a pup he got into some rat poison at a neighbor’s. HP causes vomiting VERY quickly after getting it down them.

It's amazing yet scary!

I’m really opposed to those rope-tug type toys for dogs. Also any fabric-based toys. Squeaky toys, too. They are an invitation to massive vet bills as well as fatal consequences. I learned that lesson with an impacted Boston Terrier and a huge emergency surgical bill.

So, far she has not shredded them. I keep watch for the problem you describe.

The Ditch Rider Saga continues, still irrigating and dealing with water disputes. Now, I am stuck between one large operator and the NM State Engineer's Office. He claims water the state says he does not have. I have to listen to both of these guys. One is used to pushing his weight around as a "Rico" so I have to be patient, diplomatic and unyielding. I have some appreciation for what police officers have to go through dealing with the public.
As for my compensation issue, the bank account only has a few $ left. Cannot get what we do not have. I asked the commission President to pressure the delinquent members to pay up. Some kind of support would be appreciated here. We are expected to manage our finances is a competent manner. Very hard to do when people do not cooperate.

However, all dogs are not the same, I have known people that have dogs that swallow rocks, I used to give my Mastiff/ Dane huge beef rib bones to chew on… she would not chew on them, she would swallow them whole like John Belushi with a jello-o pan at the cafeteria. She never got another bone after that. Other toys, she was fine with. I suppose that they should be monitored closely with whatever toys they have until you understand their proclivity towards such things.

As for your situation John, if I was delinquent on my water bill I would have no expectation of getting a drop of water until I pay my bills. That is just the way it should work, and it should be made clear to the people involved that you bear no blame, the people in positions above you need to execute their duties in that regard.

Charlie, you make an excellent point. I have known dogs that love their ever-present plush toys for years without shredding them or harming them in any way. Others that could reduce a Pershing tank to assorted parts in a matter of minutes. Every dog IS different and observation is key. GSPs tend to be rabid chewers as pups and then transform into pretty reliable non-chewers as they mature. Eli is getting “better” at 2+, but still needs watching. Jack at 12 doesn’t chew at all, except for his cookies, and is completely reliable, even around a leather holster. Knowing your dog is critically important.

Community Center building here broken into last night. The office of the Domestic Water Association was the target. Someone was hoping the cash box was present. Most people here pay their water bill in cash as there are no banks for 50 miles. The local PO no longer does money orders. The Treasurer had taken the cash box home with him so all they got was an old computer and blank checks. Did a real job on the office door which had a deadbolt and was pretty stout. Came into the building through the window. I also manage the Community Center building and am Treasurer of the Neighborhood Association. Another unrewarding pastime, sigh! Waited three hours for the Deputy Sheriff to arrive, collect evidence and take pictures for a report. He turned out to be the cousin of an old friend here.
