Afternoon / Evening fellow Patchers!
I forgot one part about yesterday. But it was the bad part, and I was still on a high from the weekend fun.
The transmission on my car went out while my wife was heading to Phoenix to pick me up... I wasn't sure it was the tranny, till the tow driver pointed out the fluid leaking all over his flatbed... It's at the dealership and once they confirm my suspicions it should be under warranty. I just have to figure out a vehicle to get to work for the next couple of weeks...

Having a car in the shop is such a bother. Glad it's under warranty, at least, though. Transmissions tend not to be bargain items.

urbino Indeed they are. I looked it up, and the average cost for transmission problems on the Ford Escape is $3,400. In my case, I've been on the dealership we bought it from for about two months over an as-yet unidentified shake. It only happens under a load, speeding up. Even so, they convinced me it was tire balance because well, that could be. The clunking and other things I reported went ignored. They did replace a motor mount but still... I am just happy the factory warranty is still in effect so I don't have to deal with the Mazda dealer I bought it used at over the extended warranty coverage.

That sounds messy and inconvenient as can be! Out here, a back-up vehicle is a necessity. This is why I have hung on to my Toyota Land Cruiser acquired in 1987. When the going gets tough, the Land Cruiser, well, you know.

MY darling Aussie Girl woke me at 0300 hours to inform me the donkey is in the back yard eating the lettuce patch, again. So nice of her to share these moments. . Finally rose at 0450. made Cafe con Leche in the Moka Pot and toast in the oven. Fed the four cats their first meal of the morning..... One of them has decided he loves whole milk yogurt- "Nancy's" from Oregon. He stayed at that bowl until it was all gone. Another gourmet pet! 0555 hours now. Thinking of returning to the sack.... Not very exciting, this life of mine, but still a nice change from burglary and water arguments, eh?

Bit of a doggy scare this morning. Eli apparently stole and ate a Hershey “Kiss.” At first I thought he ate two, but later found the second one. Dosed him with hydrogen peroxide (before I discovered the second Kiss) to get him to vomit, which he did. A single kiss for a 50-pound dog is probably not seriously concerning but I don’t like to take chances. Whenever a dog gets into something he shouldn’t it’s MY fault, not his— within reason anyway. I’ll be watching him carefully for symptoms for a while but I think he’s fine. Phew! Our dog one ate a kilogram of dark chocolate Toblerone that my mother in law bought for my wife. She had come home from night duty and left her bad on the kitchen counter with the chocolate in it. The dog managed to get onto a chair and onto the counter to get the chocolate, open the bag and eat the whole damn lot of it. She's a cavalier king Charles so she's not big. Took her to the vet when we realised and the vet made her sick...she vomited about 20ml of chocolatey vomit and that was it. She's still with us 7 years later.

I told my wife about Paddy's pooch's penchant for chocolate, she is unfamiliar with the breed, I Googled it up and got this picture: Now she wants one.

Saw this today on the internets: "The CIA Museum covers the intelligence agency’s long history — from spying on the Soviets to the Argo mission in Iran....There are plenty of fun gadgets to see, like a polygraph machine in a briefcase and a communication device disguised as a tobacco pipe, used in the 1960s. When a user bit down on the pipe, sound traveled through their teeth and jawbone to the ear canal, allowing them to hear messages that no one around them could." I wonder if Bertrams pipe shop in DC was involved? They hired a lot of veterans to make pipes in their shop. www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/09/24/cia-museum-renovation/

Evening my friends. I got really good news today! Not only was the Ford dealer able to get a look at my car two days before its scheduled appointment. They fixed it, made some recall repairs I wasn't even aware it needed and got it back to me today. They even sent a Lyft driver to bring me there to pick it up, all at no cost to me!
Unfortunately, as I suspected when it quit, the vibrations we've had that the Mazda dealer we bought it from kept telling me was tire balance was in fact because both front drive axles were worn and slipping in and out of the sockets. Since the Mazda dealer supposedly inspected the CV joints, which I can only assume means looking at the drive axle they are attached to, and said nothing was wrong I went directly there to have a few words with the service manager.
He told me he needed to look into it further, but had a note put in my service record to compensate me with discounts on future service items as a way to let me recover the cost of having it towed to Ford. People do make mistakes, and I'm fairly sure he will address this with the mechanic in question so I am satisfied with that result.

Someone decided to slaughter the wild horse band I have been caring for all summer. Eight horses and foals shot and killed. Their bodies left to rot on someone's land. We have a substantial herd of wild Mustangs here. They are proven to be in the blood line of the horses brought from Spain in the 1600s. They are broken in to bands which roam the southern part of Costilla County Colorado and northern Taos County New Mexico. While many of us here care about them, running water and feeding hay in Winter, other people apparently hate them and kill them whenever possible. This is area is all private land, mostly open range. I do not know what kind of sick fug would do this. Tomorrow, I am heading over to inspect the bodies with some interested parties. I will bring a surgical kit and extract the bullets from those who went down with the bullet entrance wound upright. While the local authorities have made it clear they could not care less, the ASPCA has asked us to recover the bullets and document which animal, which bullet. Apparently, they have assets to pursue this kind of animal abuse.

Sorry to hear that, John. It must be very upsetting for you, and others. Apparently some folks are just not worth the powder to blow them to hell. Geez! Did I say that? How un-PC of me. [stet]

Really sad when you live in GOD’s country, and reprobates abound.
Eventually, whatever you believe in Karma, justice, these things have a way of sorting themselves out.

There is no crime. they are no more than feral cats in the eyes of the law. Very few crimes are prosecuted in this area which is why we have so many problems. Few are held accountable for anything. Endless deferrals and dismissals by the courts. I have another idea about this.

Excellent car news. Terrible horse news. Sometimes you wonder what the hell is wrong with people. For me there is no "sometimes". From what I have seen here over 25 years tells me about half the people here should not be allowed to own anything sharp let alone a firearm. They are too stupid, too ignorant of the rights of others, and too violent to be trusted with guns. I am a Second Amendment supporter but draw the line at senseless violence conducted by the mentally impaired. Let's not get into a political debate about it. Perhaps we can agree that some people should NOT be gun owners? These boobs make it hard for responsible sportsmen and women to enjoy their rights.
