Started the day with Haunted Bookshop in the Sunday cob and coffee on the back porch. Been an HB kind of day, so far. Doing a little bit of work in the backyard and a little bit of relaxing and reflecting.

Well make that only one Rouxgaroux bowl for the day. No matter the pipe and cadence, I sip this stuff and it's just sour, flat, and unbalanced. I can't smoke any more of it today. Leaves a long and sour aftertaste of casing and humectant, vinegar, and disappointment.
Grabbing some GLP Windjammer from early 2021 to finish the tin while I work outside.

Samuel Gawith Navy Flake in a Falcon Meerschaum.
I need to let this one dry out a bit more before loading it up. I can tell there's quite a lot to it, but it's pretty acrid and sting-y. It's getting better as I go.
One thing I appreciate is a smoke I can really *smoke* without injuring myself. If I have to baby it, well, let's just say it's less enjoyable.
That said, this clearly has gobs of flavor. I'm getting a lot of something like bergamot. Like I made Earl Grey tea out of rum on a campfire full of freshly-cut lawn trimmings. It's all really "green" though. I think it needs to spend a couple years in a mason jar.

Last night before bed I loaded up a MM Pony Express with ~3/4 bowl of Old Joe Krantz and fired it up. It's the first time since starting back up that I'd say the leading flavor is *nicotine* - at least for the first half of it; nicotine and perfume. It was very intense and grouchy, but then midway through it gave way to a calmer, "charred eggs and perfume" sort of note that was more pleasant than it sounds. I really had to sip it, and move it around a lot, because anything in the direct path of the smoke would start to sting in a couple of seconds.
