When Savinelli balsa filters in quantity were unavailable I bought these filters. They fit well in the Savinelli and the Missouri Meerschaum pipes. These look more or less identical to the ones I have. I've been rather impressed. They don't prevent 100% of ash, but they certainly absorb a very great deal of moisture, to the point that *none* collects in the mouthpiece that I've detected. Savinelli also uses balsa wood filters, though their 6mm design is a simple triangle. I don't have a practical basis for comparison, but this more complex shape intuitively leads me to believe it has greater surface area exposed to the smoke. Whether or not the difference is detectible is still up for debate. I've seen it said here that balsa filters absorb "70%" of the nicotine in the smoke. After my experience with Old Joe Krantz last night, I'm skeptical, because it *still* hit with a solid dose. It's possible this is a function of being more willing to hold more of the smoke in my mouth and nose for longer duration, though. With the filter, I gladly took bigger sips and more, longer retrohales, than without.

More Haunted Bookshop. Moved to the back porch to sit in the sun. Haha fancy that; I *also* moved to the back porch. But I settled on Amphora Original in my Falcon w/meerschaum. This pipe looks kind of like I'm smoking out of a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

With my wife at the hair salon, I retreated to the workshop for a bit. Gonna have a bowl of Haunted Bookshop in the wonky poker cob in the sunshine.

Probably nobody but me was familar with all the Dunnie originals from mid-60s, at least those with varying amts of latakia. According to late John Loring...what happened was that when Murrays took over in early '70s, they substituded between 1/4 to 1/2oz black cavendish for the Cypress (sp) latakia cause it was cheaper & retail prices the same. According to Loring, nuttin' more than Capitalist GREED! I found the Murrays versions to be close but over time, added some more lat to try & even it out. Ed K & K has also done this with the Rattray blends, I find. When you read the description and, once one opens the tin, one notices something's missing - litterally.

St Bernard Flake in my Peterson POTY 2021 4AB. Bubly Apple sparkling water on the side. Is it just me, or do we not hear from them much, despite all the buzz generated by its announcement?
