After a light supper (in the Navy, dinner is supper and I was Navy, so this explains that), I am enjoying some Rattray Sir William in my Shell Briar 4106 ebonite mount (2015).

I've been on a cigar kick lately, so have been smoking my pipes less. However, I have been enjoying the occasional bowl of my burly mix and English blends. It cooled down a bit up here this evening, and I decided to give the oft spoken of "Bald Headed Teacher" a try. A nice tangy blend, with a bit of leathery undertone. I look forward to trying it in a few different pipes.

My first bowl of Palmetto Balkan for the first bowl in my new Savinelli Punto Oro Classic Natural 106 Billiard. Nice looking pipe! I love the grain and stain on that one. I agree, the pipe is beautiful. By natural, is it stained or will it darken naturally from smoking? I just saw that it is stained. This is great love the orange color and grain.

My first bowl of Palmetto Balkan for the first bowl in my new Savinelli Punto Oro Classic Natural 106 Billiard. I have one that looks very similar to that. Mines a 114ks I believe, but it's a Mon Amì, made for special friends of the factory. I'll never smoke it.

This is great love the orange color and grain. Savinelli's Smooth Natural finish is a light color of stain. I have quite a few Savs with this finish and they darken with use

Palmetto Balkan kinda reminds me of Presbyterian but with slightly sharper Orientals. I think it will age great based on being on my second bowl from an 11 day old tin in my Erik Nielsen Billiard.

Been a busy day. Three Friars in the Monday cob, to and from mowing an older relative's lawn with my son. More Three Friars while doing a little gardening at home. Royal Yacht in the Monday cob at son's house, while helping out in his yard. A cigar and a couple beers with him after work & dinner. Finishing a bowl of McConnell Barking Road in the drunken, fluted cherrywood, as I make this post.

Congrats on that beautiful pipe! Thanks for the review of Palmetto, I just ordered 2 tins. The plus is I love Presbyterian. Do you just load up a pipe a pipe and smoke it yo break it in, or do you have a regimen?

Today we celebrated The Princess' birthday. After dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, I reviewed one of her upcoming speeches over a couple bowlfuls of "English Mystery" in the Willard Lovat with Cardinal Spirits Bourbon (neat) to accompany. Hemingway said, "Write drunk, edit sober." I have found this to be excellent advice. It served me well through both Seminary and my doctorate. It continues to pay dividends.

Do you just load up a pipe a pipe and smoke it yo break it in, or do you have a regimen? For the first bowl, I fill it almost full in order to properly say hello and start getting acquainted. Then, I smoke half bowls for the next 10 to 15 bowls in order to get a good start on heel cake. With full bowls, I find they I build wall cake faster than heel cake. 🤷♂️
