2017 Der Pfeifenladen #300 in my Savinelli Punto Oro Classic 106 Billiard. My posts will be sporadic for a while as my left arm is in a sling due to a rotator cuff issue. Reading is easy. One handed posting is a pain.

Enjoy that #12 @zach! It will be interesting to hear how it is as I’ve experienced the green tins starting to fade after 20 years. Spillproof once popped a 30 year old green tin in Chicago and it was dead.

Tomorrow is my birthday so I decided I'd open a couple tins. Will be opening a 1999 tin of McClelland #12 and a 2014-15 tin of Solani Aged Burley Flake. Smoking my Ardor's in bed and finding a movie to watch.
Happy birthday Zach! Have a great day!

Thanks, everyone. john (Didn't mean to tag, meant @lawitzke)- Very "McClelland tangy/smokey Balkan" on the initial pop, the tobacco is still slightly moist with plenty of life to it and frosty. I was also growing concerned on sitting on some of my oldest tins for too long and the beyond 20 year mark. It's smoking very much like a well aged Blue Mountain/Balkan Beauty/Legends would, lighter than those but the Latakia is heavier in this #12 than I would have expected based on the description. Still very full of flavor and I'll need to get the rest into a mason jar tomorrow. But, if you take a look at the Oriental #12 mixture reviews on TR, you'll notice a lot of people complaining this is too light. It's certainly not with all this age. It's very Balkanish and full flavored, sour and smokey.
Pretty comical was the fact my cat loved the smell once I popped the tin. She kept sticking her nose up in the air smelling for the opened tobacco. Tobacco that had not seen the light of day in nearly 23 years. Once she found the tin top she kept deeply smelling it and trying to lick it. I didn't want her licking it and i stopped her but I was cracking up. Connoisseur cat.

For some unknown reason, the Green tins weren’t very popular. I’ve found them all tasty. Before McC closed, you used to be able to easily get aged Green tins for cheap. I’m glad to hear yours is in perfect shape.

Black Frigate in my favorite calabash Hey Ted, what’s your opinion of the Black Frigate? I think it’s a very nice robust mix. Hey John, Black Frigate checks all of the boxes that keep me happy. I love the flavor, great balance of Latakia and the orientals liven it up. The rum shows up as an enhancement rather than a distraction. Importantly, the flavors don’t go flat for me. I can smoke it repeatedly. It’s closer to the full mark in flavor but strength is medium and nic is slightly less than that to me. I think they got this one right.

I smoked the 1999 McClelland #12 late into the night and didn't get to the aged tin of Solani Aged Burley Flake until this morning. My first tin and first smoke of Solani 656. I've sat on this tin since picking it up at an NASPC show in 2017. This morning, I cracked the tin and was greeted by beautiful dark flakes and a heavy fermented scent that oddly enough smells like stewed tomatoes and some mysterious seasoning. The flake rubbed very well and produced perfect dark brown burley ribbon of a couple shades. It needed 15 minutes of airing out and off gassing. The taste is very rich and delicious but I do tire of the blatant misrepresentation of natural tobacco. This is cased, has humectant, and is full of added sugar without a single doubt. The manufacturer outright lies and states that it's "A very natural blend with absolutely no additives or flavors - a true burley blend." This is a demonstrable lie and should not be legal to say. All said, it's a very tasty burley mixture that's sweetened with sugar and possibly some faint and aged-off cocoa notes but it's not natural burley flavor all the way, which is fine, just don't lie about it. Anyways, it's been said that this has now changed and I'd probably not get any more of it.
